  1. I've got you by 3 minutes, 6:19am around me. Cheers
  2. Thanks Doc. I do like the woods to be quiet, but no activity is sad sad sad. Although I will probably go out, since I can't hunt from my bed. I'm just looking for a general feeling as to what to expect. Cheers.
  3. Obviously thanksgiving is coming up. What have you guys found in previous years about the quantity of people in the woods on thanksgiving morning? After the monkey-fest that was opening day, I'm reluctant to hunt anywhere that isn't bow only for the rest of the year. But I might if I can expect it to be a little quieter (and safer). Cheers, S.
  4. Nice one thug. Still waiting on mine. Bit chilly, but perfect deer weather. Now here's to hoping the noises I'm hearing are deer not people.
  5. I heard two shots already. At 6:19. Seems a little nuts to me.
  6. Hunters everywhere! Good luck all. Stay safe.
  7. I've had luck with what this guy has to say: http://www.woodsnwater.tv/product.cfm?page=189 Cheers
  8. Great day here too. Saw a fox, a hound chasing the fox, heard the fox.get shot, nearly ran 2 pheasants over with my car, saw a beautiful owl flying midday, and nearly shot a young buck. (Busted while drawing). Time for pub crawl 2012. Monroe ave in rich if any of you want to come. Benefits the march of dimes, so we call it "drinking for babies" Cheers all.
  9. Just got busted while drawing back on a fork at 7 yards. D'oh!
  10. In tree, ready for a great day. Hunting the morning, pub crawling tonight. Good luck all. Cheers
  11. Last Saturday's doe. A little young, but she walked in front of me 1 too many times to pass up. 12 yard shot, blew through her chest, just in front of the heart, severing the blood vessels. 30 yard tracking job with blood everywhere. Puts some meat in the freezer, and boosts the confidence. I do wish her momma had offered a shot though, healthy looking mature doe. Cheers all, and good luck.
  12. Had a small buck chasing after a healthy looking doe. 20 yards out. Didn't take the shot on the doe, wanted to see the buck out of co er. Of course then he didn't give me a shot.
  13. While it wasn't harvested with a bow, I thought everyone would appreciate this.guy. He was struck by a car in shortsville, and weighs approximately 300 lbs. Cheers
  14. Nothing within bow range yet but a couple pheasant hunters. Doubt they'd be good eating
  15. Sky just starting to lighten. Owl off to my right hooting away. Slight breeze here in 9H. Sitting on a corn field and looking for dinner. Good luck all.
  16. BIZ-R Thank you. A very edifying post. Also in line with what I've come to believe about longer distance shots, namely its about preparation, confidence, and your surroundings. Thanks again Cheers.
  17. Thank you Phade. I aim to be responsible in everything, especially how I harvest game. I certainly won't be trying this shot next weekend, but next year I don't think it would be out of the question, circumstances permitting of course. Cheers
  18. Knowing that it takes several things to come together is precisely why I knew I couldn't take the shot sunday night. The scenario did get me thinking about what it takes to pull such a shot off. As for ethics, ethics are the same no matter what the distance. If you think your shot will be true, and your recovery skills are there, you are taking an ethical shot. Cheers all.
  19. Crappyice, she was on main trail, nothing in the way. I see where you're coming from, but in this particular case, I wasn't concerned. Fir the rest, I figured practice was really the only thing. My groupings at 40 yards are just starring to come together. I guess I knew the answer all along. As for the game being to get close in bow season, I agree. I don't intend to have all of my shots be at 50 yards from here out. On the other hand I missed a chance at a freezer full of meat because I wasn't comfortable with the shot. Thanks all. Any other ideas/suggestions are always welcome. Cheers
  20. Last night I came out if a trail, turned the corner, and there were the 4 doe I had been stalking the night before. There were two fawn, a clear yearling, and an even clearer mature matriarch. (For reference, my fiancee who is 5'10") came across the same doe not 15 minutes later and they stood eye-to-eye) I ducked down in the closest brush and grunted, they responded by milling about for a while. They wouldn't come any closer though, and I paced it off at about 50 yards... Which leads me to my question: what does one need to be comfortable with a 50 yard shot at dusk equipment wise. I know the biggest thing will be practice, but other than that, what suggestions to you guys have? I might miss an opportunity at this distance several more time this year, but by next season I would like to be capable at this distance. As always, thanks for the help. Cheers
  21. Interesting morning. Very cold. Managed to rattle in a buck, but he never gave me a shot. Just cruised by. Waited an hour+ for him to come back around to no avail. Walked some trails after that and when we got back to the car there are 3 doe in the field across the road. D'oh! Good luck everyone. Im done till Saturday. Cheers
  22. In stand for 45 minutes now. Jumped one on the way in. All my summer scouting appears to have been worth very little. The deer's environment has changed so much. Hopefully the cold (37 deg) will get them active this morning. Good luck all Cheers
