  1. So here is the story. I'm in the wood tower stand I built two years ago. It overlooks a few ridges and has pretty good views. To my right there are pines and the deer seem to always travel out of the pines then take one of the ridges. So I hear some noises and see a doe running from a 4 ptr and then I saw a big body deeper in the pines but couldn't see a rack. All of an sudden the big one runs out and chases the 4. I still couldn't get a clean look at the rack. They ran off down the mountain a bit out of view. I was kind of upset I couldn't do a rack check on it. Then 15 min later in see a doe on the ridge. Had the scope on her then I saw a nice rack pop up and disappear. So another 5min passes by and the 4 ptr came back. Well the 8 pointer didn't like that and showed his face again. I heard some stomping and then the 8 popped out at 80 yards out broadside. And that's that! First buck in a long time, well worth the wait!
  2. Few more pics. This guy was a brawler. Took what seemed like forever to get a clean shot. 80 yards right thru the heart. He was on a doe.
  3. Opening day woot. The moon. Beautiful morning
  4. Love my hat light. Its on the fritz tho
  5. My brother got me those heated soles for Xmas last year. They are charging now.
  6. Its hug a PETA member day
  7. What?Everyone can say what they want. The fact is they protect yearling bucks and no one can dispute it. People in 3H are harvesting older bigger and meatier bucks now. And you can finally see a good spread of age structure forming.
  8. Made it up for a afternoon sit. Beautiful out!
  9. So is having a healthy heard with age structure.
  10. Any buck that doesn't mind some baggage.
  11. Give them a call and let me know the outcome.
  12. The deer just don't disappear either, those same deer you can't shoot the first year of AR's are there the next year bigger, more meat, and better then ever. I get some of the frustration the first year or two of AR's but after that... If you are a meat hunter, why in gods earth would you shoot a yearling. I have yet to meat (get it heh) someone in person who has been against AR's in 3H. From the local butcher's mouth who processes 100's of deer in the area, local store owners, to every local and non-local hunter in the area have nothing but good things to say about AR's. Again, I speak for my area and my area only. There has also been a big uptick of food plots and land improvement in the area that went along with the AR program. People know know with those yearlings making it to the next year, education, along with other habitat improvements, things can change for the better both for the heard and the hunter.
  13. Nope, pretty sure they have more or less free roam. Neighbors down the road from our place had the DEC come through and ask for a license when he was in the stand. Personally I welcome it after hearing gun shots before and after legal shooting time. They busted ~3 different places near me for bait piles last year. I just hope they dont come by when there are deer in front of me!
  14. Well heading up tomorrow morning (hopefully) to do an afternoon archery sit then get ready for opening day. Good luck all.
