  1. I've been thinking a lot about this lately, why are hunting products getting so dang expensive? Yes I know inflation, current administration blah blah blah, I get that stuff is gonna cost a little more. but I still don't understand why stuff is so ridiculous. For instance some of the new cast aluminum treestands on the Market today. I think they are great products and would love to use them. But I simply can't afford to spend around $1000 for a stand and set of climbing sticks just to get into a tree, most of my older steel stands are either homemade or I got them for cheap or free.

Hunting clothing is the same way,can anyone really afford to spend $1-5k just to buy clothing. I know the stuff from Walmart or a discount store is probably just as effective as something like Sitka for killing a deer but why is it that the whole industry is moving towards you spending thousands of dollars per year just to be comfortable in the woods? Is it because we have shown we're willing to pay the price regardless of what they ask?

  2. Buddy of mine picked these up for me as a gift cause he knows I'm into hunting. I appreciated the gift but after trying them on a hunt I decided they were too large and heavy to be used for mobile hunting, would work much better for a long term set, so I decided to modify them myself. I cut them down to 22" and eliminated the middle step since they were entirely too close together for me anyway. I also eliminated the plastic washers and tightened the bolts down since the folding step feature was more annoying than anything and made a bunch of noise. They are much lighter although still probably 10-15lbs ish and more packable now being able to fit on my back.

If the DEC put it to a vote, would you vote to allow off-season or out of season mineral supplements? Not legalizing feeders, but things like salt/mineral licks to encourage antler growth. They would still be illegal during the season (for those of us who follow the law of course)

    Sure

as much as i hate to say it...... if these go thru and stand up, from what i am seeing, i will prob give up my permit.  I carry maybe 1-2 times a year.  Just not worth the hoops, then the flaming hoops to jump thru. Has to always be locked in a safe in a vehicle, cant carry to locations unless they are posted as approving to carry, recertification every three years, more classes, etc.... (dunno if all these are in there but this is what i am hearing)   F that.  Yes they win but i just wont deal with it for what its worth to me.

I hear what you're saying, I've been wanting to get my permit but with how difficult they are making it I think I'd rather just move to a non commie state...

Contact your legislators and let them know you are against this crap: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2021/s51001

or laws banning the carrying of firearms in “sensitive locations” like schools and government buildings

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This right here will be vastly expanded.

In reading over the document it appears to me that they were anticipating the state trying to work around this by expanding "sensitive places" and they made it clear that the state cannot just blanket declare public spaces as "sensitive"

    Congratulations Joe & family!

It's difficult to believe how your life has changed since that winter night in Rochester 10 (?) years ago at the QDM seminar.  You've done well Joe.

Thank you and No kidding!! I never could've imagined how much it would change!

  7. Father's day came early this year and very unexpectedly Wed night at 8:58pm, Caysen Joseph joined us at 35 weeks and 3 days, Weighing in at 6lbs 19¾" long. Spent a couple hours in the NICU for monitoring but so far has been doing well and finally were able to come home today.

Momma is doing good as well even with the unexpected induction for preeclampsia and big brother and sister are thrilled.

  8. @LawdwazI logged in and saw the title of this thread and thought you were calling me out

Gotta agree tho, These fuel prices and economy F-ing suck! 2-3 years ago I was working making about 1/2 what I make now and was doing great financially, Now i'm making a lot more and still have to do a ton of OT to scrape by every month...

  9. I always do my own oil changes, Im wanting to learn more about turning wrenches on my vehicles to save money and be more self sufficient so lately ive been tackling a few larger repair projects as well. If my garage was heated I would be doing my U joints currently but I really hate the idea of freezing my butt off while doing work on my vehicle.

I also cleaned and rebuilt my first carburetor for my snowblower last week.

    I prefer to sit quietly.

Unless I happen to see a deer that will not pass by within range. Then I'll try anything! Grunt Call, Snort Wheeze, Rattle Bag, Can Call??? Nothing to lose at that point, because I won't get a shot anyways, unless he changes course.

I never had much luck, or results from blind calling. But seems others have.

I've never had much luck with it either but I think there's also a science to it and not just blindly grunting or smashing antlers together

Yep have I cross a drainage ditch to get to any stand , oh and the toe cap on my left Muck boot came unglued awhile back . Where I cross there was little to no water previously, it won’t be bad unless boot leaks , I’ve been crossing it 32 years or so only one year was it to high for awhile .

I wore my chest waders into the stand this morning cause I knew the swamp would be too deep for my boots
