  1. Thanks for all the help. The plan right now is to continue to plant a few more trees each year. I am going to look into the chestnuts. My property line is a stream that back up to a farm. I dont have any stands down by the stream though bc it sits at the bottom of an extremely deep hill and I would have to walk threw my neighbors hunting area to get to it without making too much noise. That hill would be a deathtrap for me to navigate in the dark. Maybe not a bad afternoon stand? Im concerned about the clover though? Do i have to spray it all year or just a few times? If so when?
  2. After years of low deer production we decided to go all out on improving our property. Property is a 120 acre lot with 2 10 acre fields divided by a tree line. The woods are mainly oaks behind the second field. The cabin sits in the front field, followed by a thin tree line and then a back lot. Heres what we did, could use some input. Three years ago we had the property thinned out and had some trails made. This year with the help of a local farmer we planted 2 acres of Antler King Trophy Clover mix as well as some chicory for the turkeys in the back lot. I also planted 4 Crab Apple trees in the area dividing the thin tree line and the clover field. Do you guys think I should plant more trees? If so what kind and how many? Lastly, I understand clover will continue to grow for up to 6 years. What are the best ways to maintain it? Thanks.
  3. Ive been duck hunting for a about a decade on the south shore. Im going to be honest with you guys. Goose hunting in the great south bay sucks, the duck hunting is actually pretty bad also until late december. If you want to Goose Hunt you need to go out east with an outfitter and hunt the corn fields that they have worked for you. Now im sure theres some guy on here that knocks em down in september and early october, and if thats you I'm very happy for you but the reality is its just not like it used to be around here. It is deffinetly on the rise but you need to wait until it gets much colder before you can start shooting up a storm.
  4. Anyone know of anyplaces to waterfowl hunt in the Gilboa / Windham / Prattsville / Cobleskill area?
  5. I have alot of the same problems as the person who started the thread . I personally own 30 acres but we share with our neighbors so we hunt probably around 3-400 acres . I'm planting a few acres of clover on my property this year . Alot of the farmers around us have been subsidized so food sources have gone down . I also started to plant apple trees. Those are some nice bucks on that trail cam
  6. Anyone know anyone that professionally makes new canvas for duck boats on long island? I have a TDB classic
  7. I'm on brand road off of bear kill road . I actually have one of those weird antlered deer on camera . Ill upload a pic soon . He had one large spike like antler (probably 10 inches tall) with little to no mass and on it and a 3 point spread on the other side with no mass . He was either a huge spike or a strange buck in need of a good meal . But then again Conesville is known for pulling a massive bruiser once every couple of years . A 150 with a 24 inch spread got shot in Conesville last season .
  8. Join the club. Conesville will remain a mystery to all of us..
  9. We just had parts of the woods thinned out and made some new paths through the woods . Hopeing that helps control the movement also . Maybe the pond is my next move
  10. I don't hunt over the feeder . I remove it in late August . I didn't know that was still illegal , thanks for the heads up . But now that everyone's done being so upset that I made a mistake , anyone have any tips or suggestions ?
  11. Have a hunting property in Gilboa area. Deer hunting is really on the decline in the region. Ive been trying to do my best to increase the deer movement in my area. To help you get a better understanding my property is a 30 acre lot. the property goes as follows : 5 acre plot of open field (nothing planted, cabin is located in this field), a thin tree line, followed by another back field. After the backfield is 20 acres of downhill woods. Mixture of oak and cedars. Every so often we get acorns, but not always. I planted 4 crab apple trees in the back field. I am also in the process of planting a 1.5 acre clover field. I have a corn feeder set up in the woods and two mineral licks along the runs within the woods. I also have a camera set up along the thin tree line inbetween the front and back field and a feeder near the corn feeder. Any ideas on my set up? Suggestions?
