    how many bear

3 Years ago saw a Sow and 2 cubs while hunting with the bow in Dutchess....although a bear raided my garbage in my garage this year as I left the door open........
  2. I hope you get it! But, deer can run a long way and survive with only one lung. I have seen and I never would believe it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.....but I saw a double lung hit on a monster that ran over a mile spewing blood out of both sides....they never found it....It was dead somewhere but 10 people couldn't find it....tracked for over a mile in suburbia and the blood trail was thick. Good luck!

    Youth Bows

Not sure if this has been asked before or if I posted this in the right spot, but can anyone give some advice on a good youth bow that is not too expensive? My nephew is trying to broaden his horizons and wants to shoot, he is 12. He is a video game junkie and was looking to try it out.....so, they don't want to buy a bow for a few hundred $$ to just sell or get rid of it. Any thoughts would be helpful, it has been a long time since i have seen a youth bow and when i started to look them up it seems as though there are many options. I know that many of you have introduced your kids to shooting or bow hunting so figured that I would ask. Anything would be helpful!
  6. I dip often in the woods when in my own stands....if I am using someone elses I don;t out of respect for them. However, I sort of think deer like Skoal Mint...I have had many deer right under my tree smelling my spit and licking it (oh no, is that baiting...haha) Shot a 140" with the gun at 10 yards (biggest yet) and I was dipping in the stand for about 3 hours....had no effect when he walked down wind. I feel like it is a scent that they do not recognize so when they come across it they are not scared. My old man smoked for years and smokes in the woods (good sign for wind direction)....he shot a lot of deer with a Winston in his mouth....I can still picture him doing that although he quite 5 years ago.
  7. Red...My daughter had both out last March when she was 3. She used to snore like a trucker and toss and turn all night along with being sick from Sept to at least March (she would get a cold or sinus infect and once she got over it she would get it again). She had the surgery and now I need to go in and check on her cause she is so damn silent..haha It took about a week for her to recover....the first 3 or 4 days were rough and then after that she was just fine....Now she has more enegery, speak much louder and clearer and sleeps a ton better. Hang in there and I hope for a quick recovery!
  8. That gets me to! Some of these guys are so fast I don't know how they can reaquire what they are shooting at in the scope. Most guys I see or talk to hunt with a scope...I could potentially see these guys letting it fly that fast with open sights but definielty not with a scope! Even so....one good shot kills a deer. No need to throw out a 5 shot volley. In 20 years of hunting I have only one time taken more then one shot and that was when I was young. Running deer and a shut gun with open sights. Emptyed the gun with three shots and didn't even come close to hitting it, never did that again.
  9. 20 years and nothing...I can't remember even seeing one. Stopped and talked with the local police as they were hunters and were curious to know what I saw but other then that.....nothing.
  10. myke....i have seen a lot of spikes that are under 3"...i call them "devil spikes".
  11. I was out today in a spot on the proterty I have never been. It was a nice pine forest that looked like Sandy took it's toll on....well the wind kicked up and I heard noises from trees that I didn't think were possible. I figured, let me get out of there as soon as possible....well that was hard. It took me about 30 min to cover about 200yrds (trying to go fast) beacsue it was so thick. Not sure what the kind of brush it is called but it was about head high and had prickers all over it....and i was trying to be quiet...(that didn't happen) I got within about 40 yards of a deer when I got the good ole whitsle blown.....and i began to circle me...realy didn't care too much...just wanted to find the fastest way out of some of the thickest crap i have ever been in.....!
  12. Dutchess, so not too far. Let's just hope I can get one on the ground...! I think aliens came and took all the deer for studay! ha my buddy and I have only seen about 5 deer between us thus far. (real strange for the property)...I drive past the property at least twice a day and used to see deer off the road, that has stopped too!
  13. You didn't get that guy on a trail cam, did you?
