  1. Just a reminder. If you apply for a cow tag in Maine you increase your chances by I think 40%. You can possibly trade them for bull tags(plus cash). OMM outfitters did all that for me. I did the 10 chances for $55 and hit on year 3. I was told unit 3 is the best but anything 1 - 6 is good. Got my bull in unit 6. That was 2019 so I gotta do bonus points only for I think 1 more year. Coolest thing I ever did in my life. Can't wait to go back, might do a bear hunt up there too

  2. Is it bad that I think I know right where you were from that picture? Haha maybe I'm up there too often...

If you guessed trestle, you'd be right!

  3. Im hooked on Centerpin fishing now too! I got a cheap Riversider 13' rod and reel for i think $150 just to get started and I absolutely love it. I use it on the salmon river for steelhead maybe 3 times a year because I live about 2.5 hours away but I've used it for brown trout on my local streams. Probably upgrade next year. Had my best luck on the salmon river with blue and pink egg sacks. A few on single beads too.

  4. So sorry to hear about your father. My dad and I only went hunting together on a few occasions because, much like yours, with 3 kids and working insane hours there just wasn't enough time. Once he retired he immediately started having mobility issues so hunting was even tougher for him. But we made up for it by fishing! At least 3 lake Ontario trips a year plus the occasional salt water trip. We just lost him in October and all I can tell you is cherish the good memories. God bless you and your family

  5. Check out the IWOM. It's like a hunting sleeping bag. Just bought one this season and as soon as the wife saw it she wanted one too. Kinda pricey but they sell size returns if you go directly to their website for a discount. Only used it twice during bow season and when the temps got up to maybe 35 I had to take it off because I was so warm. I sweat like a donkey so I strapped it to my backpack while walking to the stand. Wife wears it like a parka until we climb in to the tree. I like it a lot

  6. I like it alot. The only way I'd get one done, is if I actually had to pack one out that way.  At this stage in my life, if my " horse" doesn't have a wheels, I ain't going. Lol.
Agreed, looks awesome but I would only want that if I actually packed it out

  7. Change of plans. Public land parking spots haven't been plowed and no way this 2wd Dakota is making in or out of there. So I'm in a stand on private. Probably for the best anyway, the 200 yard walk to this stand was horrific in this snow. There's just no way I can sit at home on the last day while I still have tags. Freezer is full so it's a decent buck or nothing for me.

In all seriousness, I truly want to do it my way and it will mean a lot to me. Killing a doe or small buck is not why I decided to start bowhunting in 2017. My last doe was 2000, and my next will be never unless it’s a piebald or albino.

Of course, my odds would greatly increase if I hunted higher population areas or from a treestand. However, If I can kill a nice buck from the ground, with no blind or cover, just sitting on a chair or ground being as still as possible that would mean a lot to me. I’d take 1 buck that way over 100 bucks from a treestand. That’s what would make me happy and that’s why I hunt. It’s important for everyone to hunt for the reasons that make you happy. For me, seeing Arcade get his nice buck from the ground without a blind is the buck of the year on the forum. I don’t care if others don’t agree, but that’s my personal belief.

Edit- and Jay, wouldn’t hunting for likes be killing every deer legally possible? I do the opposite. I don’t kill 5-7 deer per year just for fun.

If killing a buck from the ground with no blind is the criteria for buck of the year then I'd like to nominate my 9 point this year. Granted mine was crossbow and I had every intention of sitting in a treestand that morning. Like an idiot, I forgot my quiver at home and had to drive back to get it and saw him on the way to my stand. Slowly stalked him for almost an hour then double lunged him at 30 yards. Perfect mix of skill and literally DUMB luck! Full story in the crossbow harvest thread

  9. Thinking about going out with muzzleloader  in the am .. need to get away for a bit ... lost my mother Friday.  Have spent the last 2 weeks running between work and sitting with her. Just burned out I guess.  Would love to get another deer .
Sorry to hear that man. I lost my father in October. Time in the woods helped me clear my head a little. Hope it helps you too
