Only time I ever rattled one in was on Oct 6th. Think it was 2017. Just tickled them a little and maybe 2 minutes later I see a small tree rocking back and forth from a little 8 pointer rubbing. Came in perfect broadside at 10 yards. Tried it many times since, especially during the rut but it hasn't worked since. Definitely agree with early season rattlingBeen saying since opener light rattling is a good idea. Gman’s cams been showing for 3 .5 weeks that bucks are sparring. Watched video of 2 lil guys locking up a bit then a nice 8 appears and shoved them around a bit. If there’s a time to gently tickle the rattle bag ( is that an urban dictionary term lol ) imo now’s the time. I’ve got eyes on a tall 8 in a small few acre plot of land . Couple run ins with him . Lightly hit rattle bag on him , got his attention, he peeked , went back to picking red clover outta field , waited 10 minutes and hit grunt tube lightly as he’s 85 yards . Didn't even look my way. Once rut hits big guys on whiff mode. I’m not a good deer hunter by any means just my .02.

Friggin scumbags. I'm pretty lucky that I lived in downtown Troy for 15 years and only had a few things stolen. 1 guy broke into my truck once and just took some loose change. And someone else took the ram off the front of my father in law's old dodge

Got my best buck with crossbow too!Good luck. I've had good luck with mine. Took my best buck ever with the xbow. I enjoy the change in weapons thru the season. Something different, almost like another opening day.

He's a tank! Congrats! You get a weight on him?I got my first buck with me bow, have been bow hunting for about 8 years and have only been able to get shots at doe's. He was about 15 yards when I took the shot, I hit a little higher than I would have liked but he still went down. He ran about 50-60 yards before going down. Thankfully I heard him go down as there was not blood trail, a nice big exit hole but no blood until the spot he went down. I have to go out and look for the arrow a little more I wasn't able to find it at the time. The picture isn't the greatest, it was getting dark and I wanted to get him dressed and hung as soon as possible. He's a 9 point, it didn't look like anything was broken off, just didn't grow the same on both sides.

I usually use a headlamp. I don't think the light spooks deer nearly as much as our sound and smell. The property I hunt behind my in-laws house is owned by a trucking company so I had to walk around their parking lot which wasn't really well lit but enough to see until I get around it. One morning I get to where I usually turn the head lamp on and as soon as I push the button I see a big old buck not 30 yards in front of me. Gave me the deer in headlights stare for maybe 30 seconds and went right back to feeding on apples. This was well before daylight so I had to just stand there as still as I could. He casually walked away after a few minutes. I just stood there and watched him til daylight work a cut corn field. Tried to put a stalk on him but he circled around downwind. Even tried spraying some tinks on me in a desperate attempt to cover my scent but that did not work. Before that I was always on the fence about headlamps or flashlights spooking deer but after that I don't think it does

First time I ever got 2 in 1 day! Same stand I got the doe this morning from. Just before 6pm came out in the same spot as the morning doe but from the opposite direction and not quite broadside. Came right to me, shot her at 10 yards. Dropped within sight. Couldn't ask for a better day! And this stand is less than 300 yards from my backdoor. Really glad I bought this garage fridge!

Dropped another doe from the same stand as this morning! Never got 2 in 1 day before! Definitely holding out for a big buck now! I love this house!

9am. Was about to climb down and go home but as soon as I turn around there she is 35 yards perfect broadside. Triple checked all my distances after missing a doe last week so I was confident. Double lung ran maybe 50 yards. Blood was surprisingly not great for the first 40 yards but there was plenty around where she crashed. Feeling pretty blessed right now to be able to hunt from home

Well I had to throw in the towel. Went to the last spot I found blood last night and couldn't find anymore for the life of me. Was just grid searching for hours and found a tiny drop maybe 80 yards from last blood. Got on my hands and knees for 2 hours and could only follow it for 30 yards and lost it again. Plus it was headed in a direction where I don't have permission to go on anyway. Smallest drops of blood I've ever seen. My best guess is I hit high at a steep angle (shot was less than 10 yards) and hit backstrap and the opposite shoulder. Trying not to get myself too down but 1 miss and 1 bad shot in 1 less than an hour just sucks. Nobody to blame but myself

Well I'm back in the same stand... upon further review with an actual rangefinder, the doe I missed was at 34 yards and I thought it was right at 40. I'm guessing it was a combination of misjudged distance and her jumping the string. This is the first summer I've been able to even practice beyond 20 yards so until now I've never shot at a deer past 20 yards so I never even thought about them ducking an arrow. Moral of the story is I F'd up and should've aimed lower. Gonna let the sun come up a little more before getting back on the blood trail for the one I did hit. Pretty down on myself for making 2 bad shots within an hour. I practiced hard all summer too and still messed it all up. Think the excitement just got to me

Looks like I'm not the only one who didn't get a wink of sleep last night. Looks like you got better blood than me. Good luck in the recovery my friend. I feel your painNot a good night…. The short story is I had two shots at my target buck.. Wiffed once and I think I one lunged him the second time
Ok so he cam in the first time I didn’t see him because of how thick till he was 10 yards away walking away from me. I tried to draw and the arrow came off the d loop. I fixed it and drew I thought he had only walked to 20 but it was 30 clean miss straight under his heart soft quartering away
About 20 min later a small fawn came in and ate around the base of my tree I could see him looking back but couldn’t see at what. Then I saw the deers head poke out at like 7 yards. He could tell something was up and looped around the big oak to my right so backside shot, I used his time behind the tree to turn and draw. He stepped into a lane a 17 yards and I let it fly. Arrow hit high and just behind the shoulder blade from what I can tell. It hit the deer and nosedived into the ground. He jumped a few steps and then trotted off obviously hurt on his right side

Well I jinxed myself. After missing a doe I shot one and couldn't find it. Not good penetration or blood. Think i might have hit the opposite shoulder. Followed as best I could for maybe 100 yards and lost it. Good thing I'm off tomorrow and can go back and look in the morning. Never shot one I couldn't find before so I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Not throwing the towel but keeping my expectations in check

Forgot my rangefinder and miss judged the distance and shot right over a doe. Clean miss is better than a bad hit though

We got turkeys flying up to roost right next to us... seems kinda early in the day for that

What's your favorite sound to hear in the deer woods?

The sounds of my bull moose grunting and raking alders were the most adrenaline fueling and exciting noises I've ever heard in my life! Only thing better than that was when they got louder!
