Nice looking muzzleloader. Like how they came up the name for it. Did you try any other type of loose powder like Pyrodex or Triple 7 and if did. What kind of grouping did you get with these powders? No doubt it likes the BH209 if getting 1 1/2 groups @ 200.

Hunt and live in 4-0, wont be doing much traveling, except maybe about 3/4 of a mile up the road from house. Going in to town now to avoid the "down-staters" for grocery and gas. Cant wait till tomorrow. Time of year where DEC officer is on speed dail and his ticket book is busy. Get to see how many trespassers can have arrested for being on property without written permission. Last year was 6. Cant say "Didn't see any posted signs" they are every 50' and are 4' off the ground on posts with orange paint.

I remember when I first started hunting (1982), opening day you could drive pass local diner at 4:30 in the morning and the place would be packed. The place ran a breakfast special and made ham ,egg ,and cheese sandwiches and filled thermos with coffee for $ 5.00 . We would get to my uncle's property around 5:30 am and walk in and be set up by 6:15 am. Never failed around 6:30 we would here the neighbors start driving up the hill to their stands and here doors slam shut. Wouldn't be 2 minutes later you would hear a shot or 2 fired from their direction. We just sit there and laugh inside and think "What the heck are they doing?" We would start hearing shots about 7 am and continue till about 10 am. Now today still drive pass that diner and its closed, but the neighbor still drives in around 6:30. Except now don't hear the a shot from them till around 10 or 11. Still shots being fired before legal shooting hours up and down the valley. Not as many as years ago but still a few.

Mossberg 500 20 gauge ,Got 4 barrels for it. 1 26" vent rib with mod choke, 1 28" vent rib with screw in choke tubes, 1 with rifle sights on it. and a cantilever ported barrel with a 4 power Bushnell scope on it. A few years ago I had a gunsmith drill and put a set screw on the side so would it lock down the barrels tighter in receiver. It worked and now it groups 1 1/2" groups at 100 yds. It also helped tighten up patterns for birdshot. Use it mostly now for rabbit and grouse and spring turkey hunting. Plan on taken it next year when go out to Midwest to hunt deer. Haven't used it for deer hunting since they switched 1 area I hunt in to rifle from shotgun a few years ago. It's light and quick to shoulder and the recoil is whole lot less than 12 gauge.

Was out all day yesterday. Had a bunch of does go by me with a couple small fork horns following them. like was mentioned younger ones are feeling their oats and big boys aren't really playing the game yet. Think about next week it should start to warm up for them.

About the same here. They head for the thick stuff, be it down hill or up hill.

This must mean that I am a meat hunter then. Because up till last year it didn't matter if it was a spike or an 8 point buck it was shot and cut up and put in my freezer. That also went for does also. The recent change in my area of 40 (Delaware county) of an antler restriction of 3 point on 1 side put a damper on what bucks I am allowed to shoot. Luckily my father in law owns land in Otsego county so I can still try to fill my freezers. I bow hunt, rifle hunt and muzzleloader hunt and it is NOT brown is down thinking of hunting. A doe with this year's fawns I will let walk because I want her to get those fawns thru the winter so will be more deer next season. A lone doe I'll shoot. Every animal I shoot doesn't go to waste. Not with a family of 4 kids and 2 adults. I raise 2 hogs every summer and a beef cow/steer. Have 3 freezer to fill, and 1 is just for deer and small game ( turkey, rabbit, grouse, pheasant and fish ). We grow a garden and can and freeze what comes out of it and make jellies and jams from berries we pick. Some people might calls backwoods or hillbilly, If I am so be it, but I was raised that way and am sure some of you were raised the same way. Guess I am saying that there is not a thing wrong being a true meat hunter if you are going to use it.

Face paint, masks seem to cause issues with hunters getting contact with string when using a bow. A package of baby wipes will take the face paint off when done hunting for day.

Switched out cheap plastic sights last year for Tru Glo aluminum sights on my Tradition and have a scope on my CVA. Am able to hold a baseball size group @ 100 yds. with the open sights. Most of my shots are within 50 yds. in the woods with it. The CVA I use if I am hunting fields or power line right of ways. Most of them are 100-200 yds. shots.

A real good powder . Burns clean and leaves no fouling to speak of. Can clean up with regular gun cleaner solvents. Have to use shotgun 209 primers with it, not black-powder 209 primers. Only real down side with it is most dealers don't carry it and only comes in 10 oz. bottles instead of full pounders. Accuracy is good with it. You measure it out like any other black-powder.

Had same problem a couple years ago. Found that a call to local DEC officer about people trespassing had him coming by property more often.

Did some searching around for a magazine I get,(wife says I get to many of them) called Bear Hunting , the have ad in it. Bear Scents. Can get just about everything for bear scents. Number is 920-648-5943 , 1-888-215-BEAR(2327) or website www.bearscents.com Just thought you would want info if you wanted to check them out.

Could try what they call Bear Bomb, from makers of BuckBomb. Could also try the scent sticks that burn like incense. Just be sure to put them in tuna fish or small tin can so they don't get blown over by wind and light woods on fire. Hear you about tearing down pair tree, bear did same thing to my small apple trees. Have had him come past my tree stand but has been staying out of range in thick brush. Hopefully will be able to slide an arrow in him soon.
