Here’s one of his beds. This was one of 8 beds. We found about 35 to 40 places where he fell down and bled even more than this. The blood goes down 3+ inches into the snow in the beds.

Reminds me of one about 5 years ago with gun, shot him on the run, in the snow, broke his back left leg.  He kept rolling in the snow to try and clot it or something.  It also smashed that major artery that runs along the femur?  Big top leg bone, shattered.  He must have bedded 30 times before I caught up and put him down.

Last update for the night. I got Permission from the landowner to continue the track. He has a large property and allows no hunting, so my buck should be safe from people in there. We pushed him a long way today and after watching him in the ravine, I really Think he’s gonna lay up and die if we leave him be. It’s gonna be a sleepless night, but I’ll be back after him in the morning.

    Best of luck dude!

Hope WNY gets his buck, but it reminds me of something that happened one week ago that I didn't have time to share. Check out these photos. A neighbor shot a deer and this was the blood trail. We tracked for about 400 yards or more through ravines and thick wood. Eventually we found the last of 4 bloody beds and then tracks leading into a large open field, no more blood. He was sure their would be a dead buck after a 50 yard track. 3 days of searching revealed no carcass. The beast appears to have survived. In all likely-hood it was a muscle shot, which can bleed profusely at first before clotting kicks in. I never saw a blood trail like it that ended in no deer recovered.

That looks similar to the 2200 yards of tracking I did a week ago, but I had blood spray all over the left side too.  Make me wonder, as I have been every hour of every day since, if I just sliced the back strap and single lunged him.  I'll just keep beating myself up about until I shoot a big boy.

Around 9 I had A big buck with a very dark rack  step out. I waited Until he was in a shooting lane and pulled the trigger. He face planted and then got up and took off into some thick stuff. It looked like a good hit, so I went To see the spot where I shot Him. Found 6 places where he had fallen down and was bleeding heavy. Ended up tracking about 300 yards and decided to back out. Now I’m sitting at home driving myself nuts. My brother in law is going to come over in an hour or two and we will get back on the trail. Here’s a pic of one of the spots I found. I should Have backed out immediately but I didnt Think he would go far. I’m pretty sure this buck is one of the big 10s I’ve had around here. If it’s not him, it’s another big 8 I’ve seen. Those are the only 2 with really dark racks.

Those look like deep blood spots man, like it's just pouring out of him.  You did the right thing, 2 hours won't hurt him.  Good luck, I know that worry feeling all too well.  Hope it works out for you better than it did for me.

It was a very good day.   Dressed weight 160 pounds.  Been hunting deer 48 seasons now.  This year hunting alone, dragging it out and hanging it in the shed by myself.  I guess at 63 years old, I'm not that old after all.

  6. Same stand I single lunged that big 8 last Saturday.  7am, watched her for 5 minutes, was really hoping a big boy was with her.  All I've had shots at all bow were yearling and fauns.  Don't normally shoot a doe on opening day of gun, but I needed a win.  70 yards, double lung, broke the shoulder on the exit.  She snow plowed, and went night nights.  Big girl, head like a mule.
