  1. From what I saw in 4H they were out browsing on saplings buds all afternoon.  When the wind came up they went downhill out of the wind.  I'd expect them to be on a south slope out of the wind tomorrow morning, and then up and running in the afternoon when the wind settles.

  2. Thank you for sharing, sorry for your lost.  This is one of those things that I think about when I'm out tracking with my dad right now.  Don't know how many tracks we have left together, but if we find the deer or not, at least it's time with my pops.

  3. Missed a big 8 point at sunrise on opening day of my first day hunting.  At 10 yards.  With a shotgun.

Dropped my thermos of chicken soup last year with a nice 6 coming in.

Nudged that big 8 this past Saturday when I knew I should back out.  Probably cost me the deer.

  4. Thinking of asking the Wife for a grinder for Christmas!  Been using the little grinder add on to her Kitchen Aid for about 8 years, and I'm pretty over it.  Ideally I'd like something that I could drop almost fist sized chunks of meat into!  The longest part of the process seems to be cutting up the meat.  Would like to keep it under 300 but that might be unrealistic?  Any help is appreciated!

I also grind my jerky (what she said), after seasoning over night I put it between 2 pieces of wax paper, on a cutting board, and use a rolling pin to roll it flat.  Peel off the top piece of wax paper, then lay it flat on the rack and peel off the paper.  Rinse and repeat.  Comes out almost like a potato chip, but flavorful meat.  Keeps really well this way if you do a bunch (20 lbs) at a clip.

Yote country?  What time did you hit him? 8 hrs later he should be dead go back then if you can.

Liver is king for dog search

Shot him at 2 pm, waiting til morning.  Deer search says there's nobody available in my hunting area, Schoharie county.  I guess the guy who usually handles it is busy.  As long as we don't get a bunch of lake effect tonight shouldn't be that bad of a track, I marked where I left it.  He was blowing blood the whole trail, very easy to follow.

Also in retrospect I'm sure I was bumping him more, lost all sanity.  I google earth pro'd the route, approx. 1600 yards.  IT FELT LIKE 2 MILES!
