  1. claw marks were about 2 inches in length. This was up the mountain at about 2000' in the Catskills. There were many other prints around, however, this was the best one. Water source is at the bottom of the hill at 1600' Other animals seen on the camera are: Fox, Coyote, Racoon
  2. Hey Guys, I found this print on the property today, it is about 4 inches in length and 3 inches in width. The property has a bunch of coyotes on the trail camera, as well as bear. It is in an area that i get a few bear on camera, and the dog like prints that I find lower on the mountain are much more distinguishable compared to this one. Thanks, Mike
  3. Thank you all for the replies... I guess what I hope I am getting is, the 30-06 is a good choice and any particular bullet will work fine with good shot placement
  4. Thank you guys, I have a few 30/06 in bolt actions. It is has been a fan of the remington core-lokt in 150gr or the american white tail in 165grain
  5. Thank you, what type of bullet(brand and bullet brand... ex. PowerPoint) would you recommend for proper expansion at 25-50 yards, and would i sight it in for a distance in between 25-50 yards?
  6. Hey Everyone, My question is, I have only 1 caliber, and my land does not have any long shots, mainly 50 yards and less of open area, in which I have seen a lot of deer and bear activity. I am wondering can the 30/06 be used at such a short distance? The area that I see the most activity probably is like 25 yards. Thanks
  7. So as soon as it becomes functional, then the permit is required?
  8. I was looking on cabelas today at different muzzleloaders and came across a few replica colt navy black powder revolvers. It would be fun to pic up as a display but also take out for target practices. Are these black powder revolvers similar to muzzleloaders in regards to an FFL and permits for owning? thanks!
  9. Can someone advise me as to where I can properly shoot on a property. I would like to set up an archery as well as rifle area for some target shooting. I currently only have a shed on the property with a neighbor/vacant house on the property line. I believe the rule is 500 feet from all structures? Is that also true for archery if done in a safe direction towards the hill. Thank you.
  10. I am just local guy looking for info, my cousin lives in NJ and says one thing, but I live in NY so want to do the right thing.
  11. I am outside NYC, I get confused as I saw in a forum it was 10, but want to make sure for future knowledge. Thank you guys!
  12. Are there any limits in NY for Rifles/Shot guns? As I learning more, I am enjoying the various styles of actions (lever and bolt) as well as calibers and their uses for target practice at the range. I am curious if there are any limits that you can purchase and keep at your home?
  13. Hello, Sorry for any duplication to previous postings, but I tried searching for it, but can anyone tell me if there is a limit to the number of firearms that you may own in New York State? For example rifle/shot gun total. Thank you
  14. I was wondering if I would need a FFL for a muzzleloader rifle? I see many sellers on gunbroker.com state that an FFL is not needed
  15. I have a pro staff on a 30-06, I use that for Hunting and Range, I just picked up another 30-06 to use soley as a range gun, so just looking for something to go out and fire a few rounds here and there at the range. Thank you for the input
  16. I am looking for a range scope, that wont break the bank. I was wondering about Redfied, Burris or Nikon. Any thoughts? It will be a for a Marlin XL7 30-06, Thanks
  17. After reading the DEC page, it looks like the closest down state county to hunt with a riffle is Orange County. I have been hunting on Private land, but would like to get out on to Public Land. What are things to look for while in Orange County? Has anyone hunted at Pochuck State Forest? If so, is there areas to park? Ease of use for a first timer on Public Land? Thank you!
  18. Just was curious if this was a good hunting ammo, I have been shooting it at the range, and so far this one and the Hornady American Whitetail 150-grain have been my 2 most accurate in my rifle.
  19. Thanks for all the input! I recently purchased the Ruger American in the 30-06, I love it, I have been shooting at the range lately and truly enjoy shooting it! I am looking forward to the fall!
  20. Thanks again, I have heard great stuff about it, I have yet to go there, but will continue the search. I see you are from WNY, how are you around Wyoming or Stueben county? Whenever I drive out to visit my brother in Buffalo, I also think about there.
