  1. Thank you for the heads up! Any thoughts on Lower NY, Westchester area?
  2. Deer, would love to learn both stand/blind as well driving
  3. Hey Everyone, Been looking on the internet during the down season, aside from going to the range and learning as much about big game hunting as possible. I have seen a bunch hunting land that offers guided packages, would this be a good idea for a beginner to learn more? Thanks
  4. Shot my first rounds with the 30-06 today and loved it! Used a Ruger American with a Nikon Prostaff 4-12x x40mm Scope and Winchester 150gr as well. Used the lead sled to sight in, after that, just used the bench and shouldered the rifle, to feel the actual recoil. It was an enjoyable day at the range!
  5. Hey Everyone, You all have been super helpful with caliber selection in a previous post that I had created. If possible could you help me steer in the direction of reloading. I feel I am still ways off from actually reloading by myself, however, this is something that I have an interest in, as centerfire ammo is costly per round. I just purchased the ABC's of Reloading as well as the Lyman 49th Reloading Manual, and I have been looking at many posts in the reloading forum. However, I am curious are there any other suggestions in reading material that I should first purchase to learn and read from? Also any suggestion in in supplies. Lee Kits v. RCBS or Hornady? Thanks again!
  6. Thanks, I haven't come across the hornady yet. I have seen lots of Remington and Winchester about $20/20 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I picked up the Ruger American in a 30-06, and now waiting on a Nikon Prostaff Scope, I am looking forward to getting to the range soon with it!
  8. I have a savage mark ii for my 22 and love it. I am leaning towards the ruger American for the 30-06 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I like the Ruger American, however, been also looking at the Weatherby Vangaurd as well. In the 30-06 I shot a Savage Model 11 in a bolt action
  10. Picked up the 30-06 the other day at the range, as well as few other rifles from a friend, going to go with the 30-06. Thank you all for the input
  11. I use them at the range, I enjoy them, I believe they are 36-grain? If, so, 50-yard target practice, wherever I want it to go it goes. I shot with them last week, here are the notes I wrote for it. "CCI Mini-Mag, 36-grain, Copper Hollow Point, 1260-fps @ muzzle Good round, shot lower than the Winchester Super, 26-grain. Had to raise the barrel up a little to compensate and was able to accurately shoot hanging targets at 50-yards without a bench rest."
  12. Would love to work in a gun shop, so much to learn, I am sure everyone on the site would as well! I just started shooting, but have taken a huge interest in it, and would love to work part time, after work to further the learning and being a part of the culture!
  13. Same here, took a Sportsman Class last year, just found the site and I have been learning a lot from the Members here, hope you enjoy!
  14. Awesome, great stuff everyone! Once again thank you all for your input and help! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Gotcha, I would say slow instead, one reason for an interest to the 30-06 is over 100 years of that bullet and due to that my grandfather had one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Boring? Sorry still learning. Because of price per round? Or is it for other reasons? Thanks
  17. I am sold on the 30-06 with going to many different sports shops, both local and chain, and gun shops, and it is the 30-06 that is most common and most loads. Do you have a particular brand or weight? I have seen Remington with their Power Lokt and Core Lokt, in many grains, and the Winchester Power-Point in similar grains. I would like a round suitable for deer.
  18. Might go for fun, I went to Cabela's in CT last month, saw a friend there, and they told him he couldn't buy ammo without a NY ammo card. Is that true?
  19. Sounds like from the conversation there are many great calibers that will cater to your needs. I guess with no limits, 22 for range and squirrel/hare 223 for coyote/varmint 243 or 270 for mid size to larger game 30-06 for deer and more 12ga for everything with varying chokes Thanks everyone for input Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I hadn't been to one yet just the spots stores like dicks and walmart. I like the 22-250 but would like those the 223 or 22-250 for more range use then hunting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I like ruger American and savage axis for the smaller caliber Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. dbHunterNY Thanks for the heads up, I like the 22-250, compared to that of the 223. I have just been finding steel 223 which I hear isn't too good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Are 22-250 or 25-06 rounds easy to find? I haven't begun looking but was curious Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
