1. Move the primitive archery to the rut and we're good to go.
2. Why stop there? If all archery equipment should be lumped together, then all firearms should be lumped together. After all, they all "shoot similar projectiles using the same method of propulsion." We just need to control the range differences....easy enough with a few new regs. No need for any special MZ season, when we extend your logic.
3. BECAUSE..... (everyone say it with me now).....crossbows are not the same as bows. Even a child understands that they are different.
4. That's fine. But they are still The Rules of Fair Chase.
5. Not true.....assuming you follow all the other Rules, you can make the book. You just get a little asterisk by their name.
6. That is my definition of fair chase, yes. All of P&Y The Rules of Fair Chase must be followed in order to have hunted in fair chase when bowhunting. All of the B&C Rules of Fair Chase must be followed in order to have hunted in fair chase when gun hunting.....or crossbow hunting, I suppose.
7. It still won't be Fair Chase. Please explain why it wouldnt be. By definition of Fair Chase, it most certainly would be. Oh wait, I forgot, you dont care about facts. Nevermind. P&Y defines Fair Chase (with the capitals.) Crossbows do not fit the bill. Any old schmuck can pop off with his definition of fair chase.
8. and all this debating will be forgotten about.................. I don't think so. Crossbow hunters will still be treated like second class citizens during bowseason, I bet. Just as some here (who's names I won't mention) treat compounds with scorn.
9. We can agree that using a rifle during rifle season is fair chase.....but would you consider a rifle in bow season fair chase? Of course not. So it is with a crossbow......nothing inherently wrong with one, but not fair chase in bow season.
10. whooooooooooo....hooooooooooo
11. Clearly, we have a state financial crisis. But I just got done reading the link that Culver provided and it clearly stated that there was no financial reason to lose DEC staff....that there was plenty of money in the Conservation Fund to cover it. Why don't you READ it before you open your mouth?
12. Not a side step. How do you answer a question that has no or low probability of occurring? How would you answer your own hypothetical question?
13. That would suggest that the DEC is not in a dire financial situation.
14. I'm reporting the article I read. period. And pointing out that if the DEC is in a dire situation.....they aren't going to get enough crossbow hunters to solve the problem.
15. Its a ridiculous hypothetical question. I am not in the habit of answering ridiculous hypothetical questions....too many variables to begin to imagine. Besides.....you don't sell your soul to the devil just because you are broke. We could make up hypothetical scenarios all day long....such as the DEC starts to sell unlimited DMP over the counter to close their deficit. It is not likely. It is equally unlikely that the DEC would become so underfunded that it gave up environmental protection or wildlife stewardship. They just aren't gonna happen.
16. Is it realistic to believe that there will be SO many crossbowers joining the ranks that they would save the DEC deficit? Puh-leeze. There was an article the other day saying that the DEC is sitting on $9 million in the Conservation fund.......2 years after they raised our license fees because the fund was "in the red." There is no immediate dire need that would require crossbows to solve....as if they COULD solve it, in the first place.
17. I believe that the DEC wants to legalize crossbows so they can make money from them. It pisses me off that they would sell out bowhunters for a few pieces of silver. But its all about the Benjamins, in the end. If they were smart, they would give crossbows their own season. It would maximize revenue, and end the controversy.
18. I feel sorry for those who are too lazy and/or incompetent to follow the rules and enjoy our bowseason as it is. They are missing out on the best hunting. But it is their choice to do so. I do not feel compelled to change the rules just because they choose not to participate in bowhunting.
