  1. Thanks for the reply. I'm not opposed to preserves as early season options to get the dog prepped and blow the dust off the gun. But also looking for public land suggestions. Thanks again Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
  2. Hopefully I'm in the right section of the forum. I'm looking for tips and advice for pheasant and grouse in NY. Primarily within 30-40 min of the painted post area. I'm from central PA but belong to hunting camp in NY and with limited time off in the fall I'm looking to capitalize by maybe pheasant hunting the morning and archery hunting the evenings when I head north. I've come to appreciate New York and it's outdoor opportunities, more and more as the years go by. I'm hoping my new pup will be a bird hunting machine. Thanks for any and all help. 3. I’ve hunted PA for years, state game lands are mismanaged and tend to be relatively small and over hunted. Soon as pheasant season rolls people go crazy for farm birds. That being said there’s plenty of big buck on state game lands. State forest has large tracts across the state, great access everywhere. I hunted Ohio for a few years for early archery. There seemed to be much better managed game lands/wildlife areas. I wasn’t lucky enough to come across the big bruisers but the sign was there everywhere and piles of doe. 4. Thanks for the clarification everyone. Really do appreciate it. The crossbow very looks like just a print out you sign and keep with your license correct? I have my regular archery education safety card, so I’m good for that. Thanks again very much Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The way it’s worded saying if you buy both permits/privileges you receive 1 antlerless and 1 either sex. I just wasn’t sure if there were stipulations somewhere I wasn’t seeing. So in theory I can hammer a doe and a buck in archery and then a buck in rifle? Shooting 9 deer in the season is well above my plans. I’m just hoping for 2 but want to be legal for the different seasons Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Trying to navigate the NY game site but figured I’ll ask here as well. I understand I can use a crossbow the last 14 days of archery season (southern section), as long as a muzzleloader tag is purchased. Can that tag only be used for doe/antlerless deer? Or can a buck be legally taken? Second part of the question is if I’m just buying the tag to primarily hunt the muzzleloader season, can buck be taken or is it antlerless? In PA the early muzzleloader season (online season and flintlock) is for only antlerless. The late muzzleloader (flintlock only) you can use your buck tag (if not already filled) for a buck or a doe. 7. Sent a pm, hope to hear back soon. Thanks for listing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks for the responses. Hopefully I’ll be able to use one of these butchers this year. Unfortunately i don’t see myself getting up north until November. Good luck to everyone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. PA hunter trying to be legal with the new regs we have about transporting harvested deer. Can anyone recommend a good processor around painted post or Corning? I’m looking before I even bother to hunt (hopefully that doesn’t mess up my mojo) Thanks for any and all help. Just a basic butcher is all I need. And I suppose taxidermy recommendations too. Says we can’t bring back the skull with any brain matter and I don’t see myself boiling a skull before coming home. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Anyone have any advice on the Management Area/Gamelands near Gang Mills? Saw a mention of it while looking around online. Most likely going to check it out but am curious if it's worth the time? If it's over pressured/hunted, I'll pass and stay where I'm at. Also any advice on southern areas would be greatly appreciated. I'm about 2 hrs south of Corning so I'd prefer to stay semi local Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I've shot the E35 and loved it. I have never shot a bow with such a smooth draw cycle. I shot 2 obsessions a fusion and a Phoenix. One was nice, average draw with good back wall, super fast. The other, the draw felt better the back wall just as solid, and again a fast bow. Unfortunately I don't remember which was which. I shoot a 2014 Faktor which I thoroughly enjoy. If The Nitrum didn't overly impress me, not enough of a change from the Faktor to justify the upgrade. The turbos (spider/Nitrum) didn't have a smooth draw. The NoCam also wasn't amazing, it's nice overall but not amazing. If I were getting a new one this year I'd look at the rest of the obsession line up before most likely ending up with the E35. 12. Thanks Fletch, I'm not 100% ready, still have shafts to get/arrows to build. My brain goes from trout season to hunting season, never could quite get into bass. Maybe this will be the summer for it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Just got back from a morning scouting session. Everything's a lot thinker than I remember it from rifle, guess I should have figured as much. Got on a few good trails but nothing overly open. Seems the best trails were in thick pines. Without asking for specific stand locations anyone have recommendations for gamelands or state forests in the Corning/coopers plains or Addison area? I'm hoping to find somewhere a little more open with hardwoods or fields. If not, adapt and overcome. Still at the end of the trip it was a great morning spent hiking and testing the new GPS, at the very least. Thanks for any and all advice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Thanks For the response Bill. I too am hunting with a Hoyt (2014 Faktor). I'm still not sure which arrows to go with but I'll make that decision soon enough. I'll be shooting the QAD Exodus broadheads. They really impressed me last year, are strong, and don't have to worry about them not opening like mechanicals. Likewise on letting the young bucks walk. I'm not looking for a trophy but I'm also not looking for a spike buck haha. Hopefully I can get a few scouting trips in this summer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hey folks, getting pretty excited for the 2015 season to start (I know it's not right around the corner but once trout season slows it's all I look forward to). I'm still changing up gear on my bow and need to order new shafts, wraps and fletchings. But if they fly like my 3D arrows I should be in fine shape. This will be my first season archery hunting NY, I've been rifle hunting in Ny for a few years. I'm planning to scout next week, I know baiting is illegal and I hunt state land, is it a bad idea to put a camera out? I'd like to set a camera out to see what's in the area but don't want it stolen. Also does anyone know the date for the opening day? Thanks for any information, much appreciated Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Cool thanks guys. I just started fine tuning my bow today. Cant wait to get ip for some last minute scouting. Also ive never used a stand in NY, never use one for firearms. Are climbers legal to use on public land (game lands or state forest). Ive always hunted private land but that got sold. Thanks again folks
  17. Hello everyone, New to the boards, trolled a bit reading old posts, a lot of good information on here. On question I haven't found the answer to yet is out of state licenses. I have been hunting during the shotgun/rifle season in NY for the past 5 or 6 years. I was contemplating hunting archery this year. According to the license website non-residents, in order to get an archery license, need either the Archery Education Course or an existing archery permit. Does that mean if I can prove I've held an archery license in another state thats all I need? I am planning to take the AEC but all the classes around me in PA are full so it wont be until next year. Also does it work the same as the old license system. Last time I checked the combo gave tags for 2 archery tags and a firearms buck. One archery tag was either sex and the other I believe was buck specific but may have been doe. Thank you all for any and all information and guidance StrAp44
