I understand what you are saying, like I said, "if" you live in an area that you can get two DMPs, you can shoot 5 deer. In my area, you are only going to get one DMP, so I can only shoot 4. The DEC "controls" the number of deer taken in the area with DMPs, that is no different in either zone. Also, if they are giving you in the NZ a longer season so you can shoot a deer, then why not in the SZ. I know a lot of people who do not shoot deer every season down here, and they are not "Trophy Hunters". I feel the only reason we have two separate seasons is so people can hunt both areas. I think it has nothing to do with management considerations.

Bag limits are no different in the NZ from the SZ. The only thing different are the seasons. If you hunt in a DMP that give you two doe tags, you can still kill a total of 5 deer. If it really had to do with numbers, they would allow less deer to be taken in the NZ. So, while they are different, the state is not actually compensating for the differences.

Look at the UP in Michigan. They introduced wolves there and now they are being overrun by them. Wolf packs grow quickly,especially when they have an abundance of prey, like they would here in NYS. Hunters would know about wolves being in the area very quickly. This is something the DEC could not hide.

I think it is another unenforceable rule the DEC officers has to work with. How can they prove you didn't 30 minutes to make sure there were no cubs before you shot. Unless they see you shot it with their own eyes and see the cub, they can't. But, on the other hand, if it makes you think and take that extra second, I guess it is doing something.

Yes, I use it. I don't use it to draw the deer in, but the deer do stop to sniff out the area it is applied. I do not use it as a cover scent.

I hunt in the Chenango Forks area, plenty of nice bucks around if they are allowed to grow. The genetics are there and the food sources are available with all of the ag in Northern Broome. But like everyone said, they don't get that big being stupid. I think you will enjoy hunting the area. Good Luck!!!!
