Look at the top right of the tree there is a old mark the same but smaller. I have a willow tree that has the same splits my tree guy told me soft wood in really cold temps the sap will freeze expanding and making the bark split. If the marks are lumped out around them I would think that's what happened

Thanks g- man I could also do a section of it this year and more next year. The closest farm field is 3-4 miles away and they plant soybeans and corn

The field is about 2 acres there is a farmer who mows it for bedding but he told me if I want to plant whatever he will do it for a price. I don't have a lot of money. The deer go there now but was thinking if I could put something there that would benefit them more.

I have a hay field that is mostly grass of some type not much clover. If I get some mix clover seed can I just over seed or should I try to till up the field and replant the whole thing?
