I do not hunt with a crossbow, but my father is to the point where he has trouble pulling back on a compound. If he could hunt with me fulltime during all archery season, I am all for it. He has a crossbow and I shot it the other day to practice. I get why people like them, but I am much more happy shooting my compound. Also, they seem awfully loud. I can see a lot of high shots on does when they jump that loud string, especially from the 50 yards that people will be lobbing bolts at thinking they can take Superman shots.

Me and a few buddies are looking to lease some land for the 2016 hunting season in or around WNY. I like the Attica area (lots of farmland and woods) and am wondering if anyone knows of anything that may become available. Looking for at least 150 acres. Thanks

LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong

Wow, this site really beat up on this guy. Quick to call him uneducated and blast him for breaking the law. He knew what he was talking about, yet certain people were so quick to get on their "holier than thou" kick. Waiting with popcorn see all the apologies come back to this guy, but I suspect certain people will just wait and look for someone else to "break the law". -
LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong

Hunted public land today. Already took a buck earlier so I am in the middle of the rut hunting doe. Go figure. Great day in the woods. Walk in at dark, kick a deer out. Not sure what it was, sounded heavy. 8am, 6 point comes walking into scent drag, turns and I grunt him back (trying for pics), winds me and takes off. 11am big bodied 4 comes in on the same line as I am unknocking my arrow. Again, try to get pic, but he catches me moving and jogs off to about 40 yards where he proceeds to snort wheeze as loud as possible. Get down at noon, go to the car and eat some lunch. Head back in further at 2pm. 4pm comes and I catch movement behind me. Low and behold here comes the biggest buck I have ever laid my eyes on!! Comes in 10 minutes after I squirted some Tinks 69 from the can about 20 feet in my stand downwind. Works his way to about 40 yards. Have my bow in my hand because for awhile I was not sure the sex. Knowing I could not shoot him, I am still shaking uncontrollably. Go for my phone for pics and video, but he is a wise old man and meanders away slowly. Never got a pic He was a 10 point with about 12 inch G2'S. Perfect symmetrical rack. Deer of a lifetime. I think I peed a little when I really got a good look at him. On way out right before dark, I kick out a huge doe and she comes running straight at me. Full sprint till about 10 yards. She sees me and stops on a dime and turns back and hauls ass the exact way she came! I thought she was going to plow me over! Morel of story, when your buck tag is filled and you are looking for doe, you will see lotsa buck and a trophy lifetime buck and no shots on doe. All in all, I believe based what I witnessed the rut is kicking off and hunters need to be in the woods all day long. Best hunt I ever had without shooting a deer. Met some hunters (Phil and Jason) today and they seemed like stand up guys. If you are members on this site, you will know this is Marty posting. Good luck to all. Welcome to the rut!! -
I also just recently mounted a Third Hand Archery Universal bow holder on my climber. I use a Lone Wolf hand climber and mounted it on the seat. It is in perfect position to quietly and easily grab the bow when you need to. Very easy to mount also.

Not to really get on you, but why would you take a dead on front shot with a bow? Lot of things can happen to that arrow from the front and it is a long way to the vitals if you can even get there. Did you knot have a chance to let the deer turn left or right or walk past you so it would quarter away? I really hope you find this deer, but I also hope you don't take shots like that in the future. You can get away with it with a gun, but not without a little luck with an arrow.

Good to hear from someone else hunting there. I have seen a few deer this season. Hunting it hard. I am in your neck of the woods in NT. If you need any info on conditions or anything, let me know. This is my first year hunting it, but I have done a lot of pre season scouting...

That is just wrong! The balls of that person!!

Thank you. I agree. In hindsight it was stupid I left it. I hope Karma comes back to bite the individual who decided that my climber would be their climber. Things always have a way of coming around...

I can assure you that me leaving it for a day and a half was not "begging" for it to be gone. I left the climber with the intention of going back out last night to hunt out of it and bring it back out with me since I am not going to be able to get in the woods for another 10 days due to some travel for work. Never did I think that someone would steal it in this small time frame. I was brought up that anything that is not rightfully yours and you take it, it is stealing. People may look to all the fine print of the regs to find a loophole, but at the end of the day, taking something that is not yours is not right in my book. It comes down to moral code and how you were raised.

So this is my first post on this site and hopefully not a prelude to future posts, but I need to vent to some fellow hunters. So I went out to a nice piece of land on the Iroquoise Nature Preserve that I have been scouting most of the summer. (I caught some smaller bucks and nice does on camera). I have hunted it with my climber 2 times so far this season and seen some nice doe. No shots, but super excited about the opportunity. Anyway, I sneak out of work early yesterday to battle the 30 MPH winds and 80 degree weather to sit for the afternoon / evening hunt. I was there on Sunday morning and left my climber (covered in leaves and sticks) knowing I would be back out Tuesday. That being said, as I sneak in and arrive to my site, I find out someone has stolen my climber. Suffice to say, this ruined my day and I had to try to hunt from the ground. I did not see anything and got destroyed by mosquitos (I don't think I was ever bit that many times in my life at one time). I just don't get how people feel that they can take someone's property that is not theirs. I work hard and buy all of my own equipment and to have someone steal it just eats at me. I have come across equipment on State Land in the past and had not one thought of ever taking it. I am sure over 50% of the people on this site has had this same thing happen to them in the woods. I never thought I would get something stolen, but after this, I will be much more vigilant. I am hoping it was some knucklehead scouting for gun season and not another bow hunter. I always felt bow hunters had a code of ethics. I am off my soapbox now. Good luck to all this year and be safe!
