  1. Just found this!! Lovin it Matt!!! I can't believe you didn't ride the deer home before killing it in your backyard.
  2. Ha Ha! Made you look! Love the pics Wooly!
  3. I can't believe you missed that antler laying behind the buck in the last picture!
  4. This may be a stupid question, but why are we allowed the 30 minutes before/ after with turkey hunting and not deer? Is there some obvious reason I am missing?
  5. I hunt because God has given me a passion to do so. I love to explore the woods in and out of season, and the excitement I get when I get close to deer and turkey is unmatched in any of my other experiences. I don't necessarily like wild game more than store-bought meat, it is just a side benefit. I also don't just do it for the comradery, because I am perfectly fine with wandering around solo. I love to see a plan come together, whether it be a stand strategy or a set up for a small push. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to see success in planning these out. I also know that hunting can become too important in my life and I need to step back in order to prioritize. God has commanded us not to create idols before Him, and I need to make sure that hunting remains in the back seat to God, family, and friends. I know that hunting and my love for the outdoors will never completely satisfy me, and while hobbies are good in many ways, I strive to put my efforts in investing in things that are not perishable.
  6. So, my big buck dreams went unfulfilled for the late ML season, but I did manage to push a HUGE doe past my wife, who slipped an arrow into her and ended up with another bow deer for the year. This makes three for her with the bow this year, a ten pointer and two does. Not bad for her second year bow hunting. I did manage to sneak up onto more bedded does in the last week than I ever have in the past, and could have had three more does if we had freezers to fill. So all in all I count the late ML season a success, even with the weight of a buck tag still to carry in my pocket.
  7. Great job Wooly! If the other one popped off your could have used your DMP! Better start up that shed journal!
  8. In this regulation I choose to be ignorant. I do not track the sunrise/sunset hours and do not look at my watch when it gets a little dusky. I quit when it is unsafe to shoot. I also go a couple miles over the speed limit on a regular basis. Am I wrong and should I follow the letter of the law? Yes. My difficulty is that I justify it in my mind.
  9. Want to share my excitement over having a buck tag to use in my pocket again for the next week or so. This is the first year in a while where I did not get a buck with my bow, so here it goes with the smoke pole! Anybody else out there having a double dose of opening day fever today? I will be going hard for this last chance with short morning and evening sits and a lot of still hunting through the thick stuff during the day.
  10. Hi guys, I have been reading posts on this site fora while and finally am deciding to create my own account. I hunt in Cayuga County, including a couple private farms and Howland Island WMA. I am very busy with a wife (who is a big hunter too) and four kids. We all love to get out and look for sheds in the spring and are hoping to train our new black lab/grayhound mix to find them. We are inspired by Wooly in our shed hunting. Thanks for reading.
