Wow, intelligent post.  Great mental imagery.

If you, or the person who's post you quoted can't see that AR would cause some bucks to live longer, then not sure you should partake in this conversation.  The point of AR is to help some bucks live longer, so that you don't send a bullet at them.  Can you not understand that?  No bullet into deer = deer not killed = equals deer live longer.  Did that help?

Now if you or the quoted poster cannot understand how allowing bucks to live longer might benefit the herd, then so be it.  It might be out of your reach I guess.  Either that or it doesn't jive with your "greed" to shoot everything you want to, so you write stuff like you just did and call relevant biology bunk.

Have you read any of my posts.....i think you read everything wrong

Where did you ever think AR's were to allow animals to live longer? what a weird thing for a hunter to say. AR's are strictly to provide more opportunities to harvest larger bodied and antlered deer. Never has anyone said they wanted AR's so deer could live longer... what a weird post.

Again greed is the only reason for restrictions .......not the well being of the animal..  Just so you can brag with the horns.....********************....all commercial hunting now

Sure there are some for bragging, there are some for personal achievement, some like to watch them grow.  Your take is simply your opinion means more than theirs. Pointless thread

The point is why does the life of the buck matter and not a doe.....

  4. Im seeing more and more push for this......i truely believe it is more wanting to brag about a huge rack then to see a buck have time to live and not die at a year old.....i have come to this conclusion by not seeing any of these people care if a doe is killed at a year old.....why just a buck and not a doe.....i say its just to have something to hold and brag.......greed is the end result....not meat or the excitement of hunting

Cross guns shouldn't be allowed. Keep them out. Shoot it with a bow! Rather a compound or a recurve or a long bow! A bow! Something u actually have to draw! U know a little skill. 20-30 yrs max. Not aim and shoot 50-60 yrs. I mean might as well give u a gun at that point.

This your opinion not everyone elses

My guess is anyone who is posting the question the on killing great bucks in Ohio public on the HuntingNY forum is going to struggle with relationship of expectations versus reality anywhere/everywhere

Never once did I say I was expecting to kill a great buck.  that is YOUR opinion of thought not mine.

I'm headed to Ohio next week for the late muzzy season. We hunt public land and I can tell you first hand that there is ALOT of hunters in the woods during any of the firearm seasons.

We hunt a chunk of public land that's 15 thousand acres and still run into a lot of people if we don't go far enough back. With 8 guys your going to want to hunt either Wayne national forest or another very large chunk of land. Which there are several to choose from.

The deer herd seems to be thinning in Ohio the last 5 years. If you lurk around some Ohio hunting forums, you'll see many people griping about declining deer populations and that it's getting harder each year to find a big mature buck. That's not to say that Ohio doesn't have big bucks, but it seems the quality nor quantity are what they were 5-7 years ago.

If your going there with high intentions of shooting a massive buck, prepare to leave empty handed. If your going with the large group to have fun more than anything, you'll be glad you went regardless of deer taken.

We are going for fun.  It will actually be my stag party as I am getting married December 2nd.  We are looking at 3-4 days.  Im juist as happy taking a doe as I am a massive buck (well horns do get a little more excitement but happy either way).

There are power/gas lines but let's be clear, you're not going to find a lot of easy ground for 8 people that isn't also overcrowded. WNF eats people for lunch...

With that many people you are best going to a place like Wayne National Forest. 8 people can really cover ground.

Any trails/horse trails there.  I like having logging roads and such around when I enter a new piece of land

  10. We are planning a trip to Ohio this coming fall for there gun season.  Has anyone ever been there and hunted public land, a do it yourself hunt.  Will be 8 guys total.  Any recommendations on this.  Also the Ohio DNR is sending me maps and other info on land access and license information.  Thanks

  13. A friend and i attempted to hunt crow yesterday morning.....we had one come in but spotted us.....the rest would circle at about 200 yards out......we used mouth calls and 3 crow decoys......i bought camo netting to hang above us but any other help would be appreciated

  14. I have seen many people post that they go in very far on a piece of state property to avoid other hunters.  My question is, are you following a trail or going by sense of direction.  I this weekend want to go far in on a piece of state land to avoid other hunters but only way is horse trails and they don't always put me where I want to be.  Also this piece of state land has many roads in it, there for creating a box which in return you would come to a road even if you were per say lost.  I would say most areas are 2 miles x 2 miles square boxes.   My goal is to get in the middle between two roads to see any deer other hunters are kicking up.  I have hunted the area I want to be in and have killed deer there so I know my general area is a good place to be.  Thanks for any help.
