Why don't you try purchasing the licenses online instead?  Maybe the system is only down in the town halls office and not the online purchasing system?  I've bought mine online for a number of years now and never had a problem.  You won't have to deal with long lines, dumb clerks, etc.  They mail them to you in a week or two.  Real simple process.

been there ,done that. I went to my archery place and they couldn't do it so I tried online HORRIBLE. The system was down I couldn't get any hunting licenses only fresh water fishing and the it wouldn't let me go to checkout. I  called and got someone who barely spoke English and didn't know how to work the system.  she tells me im not in the system I told her im looking right at my profile. well any way I went back to the archery place and got it there when the guy who does the licenses got there. oh and congrats to your daughters, great to see hunting still being passed on

  2. well the worst  caliber is a .30 the infamous .30 cal. carbine and im not even sure its even legal in ny. Now the other calibers like the .44 ruger  is a great brush gun in its limits and all  those revolver calibers mentioned above will kill deer within their limits. The second worst is the 7.62x39 and why I mention that is for the same reason for the carbine is guys would buy a surplus gun a carbine dirt cheap also the piece of crap the sks. 40-50-60 yrs ago the m1 garand ,the a3/03[both 30-06] even the japanese arisaka and the mosin nagant were relatively cheap and guys on a limited budget would buy them to hunt with. Were they the good hunting guns not really. same said for the 30/30 .Or should I say not the best choice. Now the as for the,223 and the AR rifles chambered for are not the best choice to hunt with On the other end of the spectrum is guys the are over gunned ,I seen guys hunting with 7mm mag,300 win mag even a marlin 444 .Now please understand this is just my opinion they are not the best choice to hunt in NY with.

Does anyone know if the NY Big Buck Club records include weight?  The biggest deer, by far, that I ever saw was a buck taken in Webster, NY about 30 years ago.  It was a real freak, an eight pointer with a huge wide rack that had a body like a cow.  I was told it was in the NY Big Buck Club.  I don't know the official weight of that deer but I would believe close to 300 pounds.  Since most everyone field dresses their deer, there is probably not a definite answer to this question.

no, sorry for the rant but I looked and looked all they say are the antler measurements

  4. nothing , I searched all over the place all they talk about is antlers. when I was younger Maine had big body deer my dad hunted there a few times .Wisconsin always had big deer ,Georgia too [cause when they restocked their herd the got the deer from Wisconsin].Well like my dad use to say you cant eat antlers ,but nowadays its all people talk about . When I go to the shows that's all they show and talk about is how big the antlers are .The only exception are the Benoit  family in Vermont and parts of maine they hunt they always had huge deer[body size]. If you want big deer the place was and always will be the Adirondacks. My uncle owned a motel in whiteface mt and I seen some huge deer up there .Big body deer and antlers the bases as thick as your wrist I kid you not,But few and far between .

Are PA chest measurements legal documentation in New York for live weight ?^_^

yeah , I don't know but I got that off the internet[I think this site] well the guys I hunt with thought it was bs and convinced me too .Well one deer we got was a nice size  so I measured his chest and I think if I remember it was 43'' and it said on the chart the deer should weigh 182 lbs, dressed Well i'll be damned we put him on the scale it was 174 lbs well close enough .I didnt think it was that heavy but man it was hell getting him in the car[I pulled him down the hill w/ my atv to the road then went and got the car

  6. the deer in my profile pic weighed atlest 200 lbs when we got back to the house and hung him in the tree it bent over [which easily hold 2 does]  we couldn't hang him so  we put him on top of my car [that took almost an hour no kidding w/ 2 guys] its no fun dealing with dead weight flopping all over the place it took me 4 hrs to drag him 1/2 mile. I heard of guys having heart attacks dragging deer. It was hell he got caught up on trees snagged on rocks and even when I got to the trail it still took time slow and easy I didn't want to get  sweated up and raise my heart rate so then they would have to drag me and the deer out

  7. well this is my salmon I made .I bought it from bjs [appropriate name cause the place SUCKS!!!!] salmon I usually smoke once or twice a month ,well  salmon was out of control so idont smoke them much too expensive . I seen smaller pieces and I smoked them they came out unbelievable. But I been having problems creating smoke I called masterbuilt and they were very helpful I had an extension cord that was 14 ga. wire and the woman on the phone told me to have at lest 12ga so I moved the unit closer to the outlet and sure as hell I had smoke .The unit was getting up to temp but wasn't hot enough to burn the wood. OH yeah this time I used cherry niiiicccee!!!! pecan is good hickory a little intense for fish .I have apple but will use that for pork

  8. hey guys ,my friend went fishing and caught some mackerel so I said give them to me and i'll smoke them. They came out excellent but I had a problem trying to get smoke I think it was the wood chips. I bought some pucks and broke them up they are suppose to be for a pellet smoker .Well I finally got smoke and they taste excellent I smoked them for like 3 hrs @ 160 degs and brushed them w/ maple syrup

  10. ahhh yes now your talking. I've been codfishing  for 40 yrs always in the winter freeport to Gloucester mass. the capt al was my boat  back in the day  when you fished all day in 12 deg to catch one maybe two fish but not like now  with the pool fish maybe 12lbs .Most fish were in the twenties and thirties and the pool fish always went 35 -40 lbs not that always we got fish but when we did they were BIG COD, but lately I like the Viking fleet. One boat mentioned above I went on once and WILL NEVER EVER fish on it again the mate say the fair was $110 I gave him $120 and he walks away, I ask hey where my change and he caught an attitude ' Always tip 20% and many times more than that

  11. yeah my problem started when I came down with diabetes it effected my eyes and I don't know why but all of a sudden I had to turn my face and anchor on the left side of my nose [I shoot righthanded] and that was just to see the pins thru the peep and I wasn't even in the bullseye I had to move the bow arm trying to get  pin on the bullseye, I was so frustrated I gave up shooting ,This was with 2 bows I have so I couldn't understand what happened .I use to shot so well 20-30-40 yds all I had to do was anchor @ my ear put the string on the tip of my nose and let her rip.But the guy @ my bow shop help me and adjusted the bow one shot and he said dead center I said I know I seen everything line up when I shot. look on the bow tuning post on here and see if it is the arrow or bow or you , there's a lot of info on there. hope you correct the problem I know how frustrating it is and shooting is something I love to do and I do it to relax and it hurt so bad and no way was I going to hunt and take a shot @ a deer know my shooting wasn't up to par.

  12. one thing I will say is research research and research .If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.look for leans, ezment rights[ especially if the 2 neighbors have a agreement that wont be included if the property is sold] Also talk to people around the area but never say you are interested it the property. NEVER believe what the guy says selling the place hes trying to dump it.and look into possible land owner disputes in the past  .Nowadays it is much easier with the internet . My friend bought a place in hancock and everybody knew there was a dispute and nobody said anything to him the guys selling the property told him oh I got it surveyed last year its 40 acres you don't need a survey and this is the price so my friend never did a title search [he paid cash BIG MISTAKE] .Well it was 33 acres cause there was a dispute about a road [an ezment going between the 2 properties the guy that sold it to him said he owned the road well AFTER  he bought found out he didn't]
