  1. I've always wanted to write about the zen state that archery provides. I know many of you here know this state. It's a state where the mind empties and you actually become the arrow. I attempted to articulate this state. I hope it resonates with some of you here. I know this style probably isn't for everyone but feedback would be greatly appreciated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSu6YSKYcy8
  2. Glad you enjoy our videos and I'm glad this piece resonated with you. I've been wanting to make this video for awhile but couldn't find the inspiration until getting on stand this season. Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour

  5. Some of you seemed to enjoy the first video journal entry I did a couple of weeks ago. It was quick and palatable like instant grits. This second entry is more like a stew. It's been simmering inside for quite awhile but I wasn't able to find the right ingredients for the finishing touch until getting on stand this season. For those curious about why I make these videos, to put it simply, I have no idea. The same way I have no idea why I write. I know my stuff isn't for everyone, especially in the outdoor community, but I want the ones who do enjoy my work to know that I really do appreciate all the kind words and encouragement. Hope a few of you enjoy this entry. Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour
  6. Thanks Doc. Glad you enjoyed it! Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour
  7. I've always gotten some of my best writing done during deer season while on stand. This year, I've decided I would put the shorter pieces to video. I think 20 years down the road they'll be nice to look back on. I've shared some of my writing here before and much of it has been well received. So I figured I'd share this short 1:30 long video with you all. Let me know what you like and don't like. Hope everyone is having a great season. Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour
  8. We were about 5 miles from home when we drove past a pasture that had a beautiful hillside and an enormous oak tree at the very top. The cows were on their feet and the moon had them and the tree silhouetted. At the bottom of the hill was the fence to the property and some train tracks ran parallel to the fence. I turned the car around and my wife prepared her camera for the moon shot. We parked at the entrance of a public green space, walked across the street and started down the train tracks. At about the 100 yard mark my wife, who was walking directly beside me holding my hand like a vice, kind of skipped/jumped over something. "What that a log or a rope we just stepped over?" It dawned on me immediately and I felt foolish for not having a flashlight on. "I guarantee you it was a snake." I said to her. I reached into my pocket, turned the light on on my cell phone and BAM! We had literally just stepped directly over a timber rattlesnake. We immediately started setting our equipment up to film the snake. The moon would have to wait. After we got some good footage of the rattlesnake, we kind of spent our remaining weekend herping and ended up getting footage of a copperhead and a black racer. I shot this video blog style so if you only want to see the reptile footage I was skip to the 4 minute mark. Although, I would like to add that I have been working on my editing and I have tried really hard to make the videos as entertaining as possible. So for those that watch the entire video, let me know if you like the video and if it held your attention well. I'll shut up now and post the video. Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour

  12. I wrote a poem but then decided to base a very short film (2 minutes 30 seconds) around it regarding the last few weeks before deer season begins here in Georgia. It’s a time that remains miserably hot and sticky but fall can be felt early in the mornings and late in the evenings. Please let me know what you think. The voiceover is in the description of the video. Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour
  13. Holy cow folks, went to 3 historical bridges with my magnet, one of which happened to be a covered bridge. Really got on top of some really old and really unique stuff at the last sight. Hope you enjoy. This is a really underrated hobby. Facebook: Zach Byrd Adventure Hour
  14. but I've finally caught my first trout. I've been bass fishing since I can remember but never fished for trout until the weekend before last. My buddy talked me into going so we loaded up the trout fishing gear (his trout fishing gear I should add) and the wife and I loaded up our two feral children and drove to Blue Ridge to do some trout fishing for rainbows. It was good having had my buddies Aaron and Jason there to show me how it's done. This is actually two different trips to the mountains. I loved it so much the first time that we drove back less than a week later. On the second trip my buddy Dustin tagged along and we each caught our limit. The highlight of the trip was helping my daughter catch her first trout and seeing my wife catch her first one as well. Silas didn't catch anything but he sure had fun following me around studying the fish on the stringer. I spent at least 10 hours editing this video. Hope you like the way it turned out.
