  1. That is also what I thought, but then again I don't work with or for the DEC. Then again they do not get everything right, I think we can all attest to that lmfao.
  2. I keep seeing a lot of Bucks in my area still with both sides. I was recently told by a DEC biologist that a buck will not drop its horns if there is a doe in "heat" in the area. Not sure how true it is, but being he is a wildlife biologist he must have known what he was talking about.
  3. Not really big on attractants but more of lures and cover scents. I put fox urine along heavily traveled deer runs as well as around my stand. However, this year I decided to use an old one that I heard about and purchased pure Anise oil and use it as a cover scent. I'm not sure if I found a grand central station for deer or it was the oil but this year I saw probably 25-30 deer all withinh 10-15 yds, including two nice shooters opening weekend(I passed them up and kick myself over it every day now lol).
  4. As a Jersey resident, I can say with great confidence that we have some huge deer and bears. From what I have heard and researched, the only problem is that the state land portions are small and can get way too over crowded. The season is really long and you can take multiple deer in a season depending on the zones.
  5. I agree with you completely. In the state of NY anyone no matter the age can accompany you while you hunt, they just can't posses any type of firearm or bow.
  6. There are definitely monsters up in the 4P area. However, if few to little people go out and the doe to buck ratio is high than the big bruisers won't have to move until late at night.
  7. Take a look into Hornady Custom Lite Ammo if you chose to go the gun route. Although I have never used it personally, all the reviews that I have read all have positive things to say.
  8. I have been going up to Delaware county for a while now and the deer population seems to be non existent compared to what it used to be. My father and I hunt in Hamden and the size/amount of bucks taken on the property by my Dad from the late 80's through the early 2000's is astounding. However, the past couple of years the sightings of bucks, let alone deer, has ceased to exist. The county has ideal land for whitetails, yet they seem to have vanished. As many of you said above, both my Dad and I both believe it is due to the lack of people hunting in the town and surrounding area. Hopefully, the sport starts to regain more popularity among my generation.
