  1. Thanks Sean. I'm told bear is delicious and needs to be treated like pork. I just got the meat back from the butcher. I think bear stew will be my first attempt. Good luck in the woods.
  2. Anyone have bear recipes or cooking tips to share? I know it's got to be cooked well. Any info would be appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving fellas.
  3. Got my first bear in hancock 4w on Sunday at 4pm. Was walking towards me at about 60 yards out. Aimed at his chest with my marlin 44 mag. Squeezed and he dropped where he stood. Turns out I didn't hit his chest at all. Hit him in his eye. No exit hole. Not sure if he dropped his head down as I shot but either way, it's about as lucky as you can get. He only dressed out at 165 but I will absolutely take it. I was an hour hike from camp so I decided to get help and go get him in the morning. Took us half the day to drag him back to camp. What a experience. Going with a half mount. Any tips or recipes for bear?
  4. Congrats Zem. That's a nice buck. Crazy story. Glad you got em.

  6. Thanks JGS. Any problems since they updated? Reviews indicate that the app is not what it used to be.

    Gps app

I am looking for a gps for the woods only. Purpose would primarily be to get me to stand locations in the dark. I want to share coordinates with hunting buddies also. I see some of you have some pretty bad ass apps for your smart phones. Is this all I need? Which app do you like? I have an android phone. Or do I need to buy a handheld GPS for what I'm looking to do? If so, recommendations? Thanks in advance. Good luck to all.

Good luck Zem. Thanks for the info on the Turkey party, unfortunately, I am done for the season and won't be able to get back to camp. Happy holidays.

Hooper, is this George? We are next to Greg's place. My name is Sean. If so we've met a few times before.

Wow zemmer, that's a heck of weekend. Good for you guys. I will check out the pics and story. Sounds like filling out that doe tag won't be a problem.

Eagle and zemmer, did you guys have any luck so far? Sadly I did not and I doubt I can get back up there.
  13. That's a hunting camp. You must have taken bear out of there over the years. The mountain to your right is Grandview acres. I know guys who have property by the power lines who have taken quite a few. They seem to like that area. How many acres do you hunt?
  14. Philo, I had the same thought. Maybe get another engineer out but it's like $450 for a visit between the engineer and the guy with the machine. I did a search on civil engineers in my county and came up with nada. I get the feeling this guy is the only act around. What kind of system did you put in and did it pass inspection?
  15. Zem, man that's funny. For 25 years I've wondered what was back there. Always seemed like a great place to hunt. It is like a 50 % chance that as I drive by there will be a deer hanging out right behind that gate. That's a great spot between the 2 mountains. That goes all the way to the summer camp by 97 if I'm not mistaken. We have electric finally and pump spring water to the trailer for hot showers but the trailer days for me are very much numbered.
  16. That lady was across from my property before she went to the yellow house. I'm glad she moved cause that peacock was a noisy son of a b. Your camp is the gate at the hairpin turn?
  17. Obama, That cabin is sweet. I hope to get to that stage early next summer. I hate shelling out that kinda money for septic but man after 25 years I'm just done roughing it. Plus with the old lady and kids I have to do it right. We have a lot of rattlesnake by us. I couldn't ever use a outhouse with peace of mind if you catch my drift.
  18. Zemmer, I know exactly where you are talking about. That barn finally went down. Lol
  19. Ok well it seems like that price is def in the ballpark based on what you guys have been paying.
  20. $20,000 Holy Moses. I shouldn't complain.
  21. Burm, I love that idea and def want to do that however,I have no phone available at the street. A big ole mountain behind me which makes my satellite connection spotty at best. Cell reception is next to nill. What do you have up your sleeve? I think for heat we are prob going the route of a wood burner. I want it in the "greatroom" but would it be totally more efficient to have it in the basement? Ambiance is a big deal.
  22. Letin, I checked the map, thankfully I'm not in the watershed. I was worried cause I am steps away from the main stem of the delaware river
  23. Philo, a gravity system was ruled out by the engineer due to the heavy clay. I was then told I needed a aeration system (Norweco 500 gal) with pump and leeching field. Rough estimate was "no more than $10,000"
