Thanks for all the responses fellas, I know this subject turned into a sensitive subject- a lot of guys out there do not like hearing others opinion. But I know a lot of people are ok with it and learn from it, so I will reiterate and be more specific this time- so everyone can understand my view point. In my opinion- no deer small enough you can pull out with 1 hand should EVER be shot, we all know what the yearlings look like. They deserve some time on this earth and a chance to mature enough to defend them selves the next year. Yearling button bucks should not be shot- why not just shoot a doe ?? Shoot a mature doe- get more meat and let that buck grow a rack the following year, so you can see what he kind of potential that buck is going to have and you can make an ethical decision on what you want to do ! I am glad to see the dynamic of comments changing and more people agreeing with what I am saying, I would think almost all hunters agree with this except the people that are told to go right and then go left just out to spite ! I think its about time to get off this repudiative subject, glad we all had a chance to view our points. As I sit here holding my 2 week old baby girl, I say LET THOSE BABIES LIVE THIS SEASON ! Good luck everyone, I will be heading up to the Southerner this weekend with a group of 5 others.

ChrisW You really need a lesson on whitetails, if you think ANY of those bucks 1 shot were 1 1/2. I am very familiar with seeing fawns ( button bucks) and 1 1/2's small spikes -3 or 4 pointers, clearly NONE of my bucks. I have been very fortunate harvesting 3 wall hangers off the state land, and I can count on my fingers the amount of time I have seen deer of that caliper. 2 1/2's and 3 1/2's are what I am after where I hunt For the guys trying to play Super Troopers and re con where I hunt, Mount Morris is not 9P. If you look further then my last couple posts, I purchased a house I am flipping in Mount Morris 2 streets away from the park. I have read on this forum before, never had an account. Nor never wanted one, I never liked how many guys wine and bicker over silly rules or what people say. BUT I wanted to due my diligence and see what a mature buck was before heading out to the stand on the property. Bozo ? Seems like you have a lot to learn about respect Buckmaster7600, im sure you won't honor your bet either- because you just LOST. My Sierra is full of car seats is factory height.

I 100% and respect what you're saying stoneam2006- I was actually not even the person who started this conversation. Just seems to have the strongest back bone to keep it going, but yes it is tough not to say anything after seeing a half dozen of so tiny deer harvested already on this forum. That is why I jumped in and said what I wanted to say, I am glad many agreed and disagreed with me, I think we all know deep down what is right. LJC No need to personal message me again or keep posting me about my location, I will not walk you to my stand either. I take out co workers and friends to my area without hesitation, I have no intrest in telling someone my area who has done nothing but doubt my integrity. A mans word is all he has, and I have been nothing but honest- so do us both a favor and don't doubt my word again !

Great comments gentleman, so much of hunting is lessons. I hope this is a lesson for people who need it, the more yearlings that live only will make for more trophies and fuller freezers for everyone- win win win for everyone !

Absolutely Four Seasons ! GREAT harvest DanielT !! Must have been tough passing that 8 pointer- looks like it paid off ! I never made it out this weekend, to much stuff going on home. Looks like you guys are seeing some good action out there- real excited to get out there tomorrow ! I will be there from 1p.m.- dark for the first sit of the year. I can't believe the lack of confidence people have from " State land " , the name calling and disrespect- real mature guys. Well only photos will validate me, and I think it is great how skeptical so many of you are that I harvested these on state land, and no I am not next to a farm which I was asked. I hunt solid timber, heavily hunted and I still always get the job done. I feel great shooting a nice buck after letting a smaller one walk by, here are photos of some of the racks, the other racks I have are at my Uncles cabin- including my biggest wall mount. I was also asked what do i consider a mature buck ? Everyone of these bucks are mature- big body, good racks and NO WAY any of these are 1 1/2 like someone was commenting. These are all 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 year olds, for NY and state land these are GREAT mature Bucks. Lets see if you can keep the comments respectful this time- I doubt it ! LET THEM GROW- NO EXCUSES- #STEPUPYOURGAME

Thanks for starting this thread, this seems to be a very heated subject- I love it ! I can't believe how defensives some guys are getting, and how many names I have been called. My prediction is is you're hating on my comments you are a FAWN KILLER hah Once again I am going to state my point- I seen first hand opening day last year, some S.O.B. pulling out a deer 1 handed, said he couldn't tell how small it was until he got up to it. That is unacceptable to me, no excuses ! People keep commenting about rack sizes, you can't eat racks blah blah blah - my point is its not that hard to harvest a MATURE buck or doe. Guess what ?!? You get even MORE MEAT. If that is so important to you, only makes sense to shoot a bigger more mature animal. If you want to be the man known as a yearling killer, and fill up half a grocery bag full of meat, good luck with that. I will continue judging with disappointment ! LET THEM GROW !

Listen to yourself, your excuses are embarrassing to listen to. Even is my area where deer are as scarce as reports say, I still see does constantly- and the deer that started this discussion was a 6 month old male, so small it will be tagged as a doe. Just for your info I am 9 straight years of harvesting a 6-12 point buck on state land, with pressure all around me. Hunting thick forest, no food plot, no private land, and it is no problem for me to harvest a mature buck every year. So no there is no excuse for someone to shoot a deer the size of my Boxer. I fought very hard keeping our Country safe as a Ranger, every mass casualty incident I have been in I always saved women and children first, I WILL NEVER encourage a fawn being killed. Take pride in what you harvest, not an adolescent with no chance. I look forward to the day NYS instates a 3 point minunum

That is all I have hunted for my 18 years of hunting, with 5-10 other trucks in the parking area. Try going in the woods more then 50 feet- you would be surprised mature deer ACTUALLY live in woods, tough to believe I know.

Sodfather I disagree- I think this was the right place right time, clearly everyone reads this thread. There is so excuse for someone to shoot a 6-8 month old deer, if someone is that desperate for meat- 2 weeks of meat is not the answer. Just pure laziness in my opinion and lack of skills, its not hard to kill a mature doe or a couple year old buck !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish fawns spots stayed on for a year- so they would make it past there first hunting season and mature for the next year. There are clearly to many hunters out there that can't judge a yearling when they loose there spots.

I have never hunted the park, I am about 1/2 mile South of the Damn - East Side of park. Looks like its going to be a wet morning, I plan on heading down to the tree at noon and stay till dark. Sounds like you guys are heading into some wild terrain tomorrow, if you get in a pinch your self or need assistance hauling a harvest out, feel free to send me a p.m. or post on here- I have no problem assisting. Are you hunting the East or West side of park ?

I will be hunting about 5 minutes East of the park Saturday, first time out this season. Temperature looks great, going to be in the low 40's, hope the rain holds out- not looking good though. Genesee Michigan - your update definitely excites me. I am hunting a small block of woods, but is full of acorns- no corn by my woods, just a large 90 acre alfalfa field. I will have my tree umbrella on and try to sit all day. Looking forward to the weekend updates from the area.

I appreciate that, same to you and your bro ! That is pretty funny- my brother and I are best of friends and also hunting partners looking to split a property also. I agree, especially people with hundreds of acres, I admire them very much. 24 acres sounds perfect ! I had a sign at the Inn this summer looking for land, land/cabin. Some one removed my sign though, need to put another one up.
