  1. Yeah, it's Vets Highway, and his cousin Sunrise! I know people who live behind the park, north of the water dept offices. Monster deer. I though he pruned back the shrubs, but he said never, he's got a 5 foot browse line on all their shrubs.. All kidding aside DEC did a cull shoot in Hecksher this year so I'd bet they hit a few other spots as well.. How do you know about that cull shoot at Hecksher. I have heard rumors but thought they were just that. Is this a fact? If so they must use bows or silencers as I would think people over there would freak out if they started hearing gunshots. I live nearby and its not common to hear gunshots there. I Drove by on Sunrise the other day at about 4:30 and there were easily 15 deer grazing in the open field.
  2. So my buddy shot the new Bowtech Assasin today. Its a 2011 bow and its very nice. I want one. $650.00 ready to go. Does anybody have any experience with this bow?
  3. I shoot a Tomkat too. Have not found many people that do. I love my bow!
  4. Funny you say that. I have been there many times and have spoken to chuck and had my bow worked on by him. We have plans to go there on Saturday!
  5. He is looking for a good deal. I just want to see what if anything people have that they may want to sell. He is looking at brand new setups for like $500-$600. To buy used it would have to be a good deal. Thanks
  6. He is a 29 draw length? Sorry I forgot to post that
  7. I know this may not be the right section but I am looking for soemebody specifically, in the Long Island area. My buddy is ready to purchase his first bow and we are gonna go look at some new setups at a local shop or two. I mentioned that he could probably get a nicer used bow for the same money he would spend on a brand new midline bow. Thats what I did years ago and i was very happy. His thing is that he wants to be able to physically see, feel and shoot the bow which i can understand. Lots of nice used setups online but who knows what you end up getting? Too risky for him. Does anybody in the area have a RH bow that they may be looking to sell? He is looking at the big three, Bowtech, Matthews and Hoyt and he is also considering PSE. Thanks in advance, Frank
  8. Does anybody here know if Pheasant Run is taking new members? I sent two emails to them but still have not received a response. Looks like they have some great success there. Are there any members here that belong to the club? Does anybody know what a membership costs? Thanks in advance, Frank
  9. Jeez this post really took on a life of its own. I just wanted an idea of prices. So heres my take. I just dont see any issue with someone asking for a discount even if they have no reason to ask. As a businessman you have to have thick skin and you shouldnt get insulted, as you probably have bigger things to worry about. Donald Trump, like him or not is famous for saying you will never know if you dont ask. I actually met him once and asked him for a million dollars. He laughed and said no. Anyway every person has the right to ask and the owner has the right to say no. As long as each person is courteous to one another then so be it. For years my dad owned a Telescope store in Oakdale (actually right in the shopping center of a taxidermy place). He is a professional astronomer and telescopes are a specialized field much like taxidermy. People would come in and ask a million questions and then ask the price. Then they would say yeah but i can get it online cheaper. My dad would simply and calmly say "so buy it online, but remeber you dont get me. If you buy this here i will help you and be here to answer questions etc...." I think itsteh same in taxidermy. You get what you pay for. Anyway I am estimating $500 to play it safe. Now last thing when you look at a guys work what do you look for? I mean when a head is hanging on the wall it always looks good to me. Its not like you can normally look at it up close right?? Any tips??
  10. Went out today and boy was it awful. I have to say the standby system is really horrible. I brought my dad for first time and he was so turned off by the whole process. Its a shame they make it so difficult. Anyway hunted spot 21 in Otis Pike over on Mill road off Edwards Avenue and I walked that place from top to bottom and found one set o tracks. GRRRR!!! I think thats it for me this year. First year without a deer although i did pass a few does. Who knows maybe i will get out once more. Time to start shed hunting!!!!
  11. LOL. A smiling buck with a MOHAWK i would think that costs extra! LOL
  12. Saying NO is completely understandable but being nasty and telling him to take your deer somewhere else is NOT. IMO. Why would you expect a discount? Just think how many times he must hear the same thing from his customers.
  13. UGGGG man. I did tell you about that. I am really sorry for you. I have a truck with huge ass tires and a lift kit and i even have trouble. I should have made a bigger deal about that to you. Sorry bro.
  14. I am a recent member there and I can tell you the place is amazing for the price its incredible. I love it and there are alot of cool things in the works there. PM me if you want more info. I can get you in touch with the President and he will give you a tour and let you shoot there. You have to see it to appreciate it.
  15. Great Thanks. I dont have head to mount yet lol. I was just curious. Going out again on Friday so hoping you will see me soon. Thanks
  16. Gonna do my best to get out tomorrow am. I figure with all of this snow i should be able to get out on standby for sure!
  17. I have heard various ranges so any info would be appreciated. Thanks Frank
  18. Where and what spot if you dont mind telling us?? Thanks Frank
  19. These are spots off Hot Water Street and CR 51. I believe #41 is off CR 51 and easy to get to. 42 is on a terrible dirt road with huge pot holes that fill with water when it rains or snows. Make sure you have a good 4wd truck as i am sure there is still snow and ice in there. Anyway these spots are relatively thin Hardwoods surrounding 2 huge hayfields that but up to CR51. During Bow season I found some huge rubs along the treeline bordering the field and many signs that they are in that field at night. The issue with Otis is that you get there so late and have to leave so early. I would set up on the edge of that field (75 yards in) and hope to catch some bucks cruising the treelines. Other then that I like to post up during shotgun. There are a lot of spots in the area and other hunters will push those deer. Good Luck.
  20. Then why can you bowhunt on weekends during the warmer months when it makes sense that more people are hiking and why cant you shotgun hunt weekends on private land with no hikers?
  21. Got out to Otis Pike for 3 hrs this evening. Was not able to get one of my fav spots and settled for a spot i have never hunted before. No deer and got soaked as the snow turned to sleet and rain. WHYYYYYYYYYYY no shotgun hunting on weekends, even on private land. Just doesn't make sense to me.
  22. Do you think that the bucks will still have there antlers by the 17th? When do the majority of them drop? I was gonna go out again for shotgun sometime around the middle of the month but i am at the point where im solely looking for a big buck. is it possible or likely in mid Jan? Thanks
