  1. passed on a doe and a spike at 15 yards but had a great day anyway. Hey what spot is considered the old grumman property? Is that a numbered spot or private land? By the way the antlers seem to be dropping early this year??????
  2. That was my plan to a tee. Hope it works out.
  3. Going to bed soon. Cant wait till the am. So nobody knows anything about spot 18 Otis Pike????
  4. just heard that the rumor is that it was Rocky Point either spot 26 or 27.
  5. I hunt tomorrow at Otis Pike. I heard from a friend that only two deer were taken today. One was an 8 pointer. Has anybody heard about any success or where the 8 was shot?
  6. I soot a Browning BPS 12 gauge shotgun. I am going shotgun hunting for deer next week. I use the rifled choke for deer hunting. In the past I always have used the lightfield sabot slugs but i recently read an article that said the Hornady SST slug was best. Any advice??
  7. oh i didnt even realize it said that. I was going based off of what my buddy told me. He could be wrong so dont take my word for it.
  8. I think its the last few days of January. 28th - 30th at the Coliseum.
  9. Does anybody know if you are allowed to hunt in Southahven County Park? If so has anyone ever hunted there and had success?
  10. So i had first pick of a spot today. I was lierally the first number to pick. I am not that famliar with the Otis Pike spots but everything was pretty much wide open for day 2. Since i couldnt go opening day that was fine with me. I ended up taking spot 18 for day 2 of the season. I was thinking of taking one of the Hot water street or toppings path spots but it takes too long to get there and get back plus there are just so many hunters in that stretch of area. Anyone familiar with spot 18 at Otis Pike? If so any tips on where to hunt on that property? Thanks in advance. Frank
  11. again pretty simple not illegal to sell, illegal to use. If you cant walk by it and leave it on the shelf, then suffer the consequences. If no one bought it, they would not sell it. In alot of areas in nY it is illegal to hunt deer with a rifle, but the stores still sell rifle ammo. Should they stop doing that also? Bubba, I see the point that you are trying to make but thats a bad analogy. Baiting is illegal in all of NY rifle hunting is not. Correct me if I am wrong but crossbow hunting is illegal in NY and its also illegal to sell them here. If what you say is true then why not sell crossbows and if you choose to buy them and use them then you suffer the consequences just like with baiting products. I think if its illegal to feed deer here then stores shouldnt sell the product. There is obviously a detrimental effect of baiting in the eyes of the law so why tempt people to use it. Just stating some facts. anyone can ge ton any website and order it and have it shipped to the door. A lot of peole bait with corn too. Should feed stored not be allowed to sell corn, or farm stores not sell salt blocks? Does that analogy make you feel better? Thanks for the crossbow correction, i wasnt positive but i did think they were totally illegal to buy here in NY. With all do respect Bubba the analogy still does not make sense. Neither does the corn feed analogy. I will explain below. For the record I am against baiting, even when I watch bear hunting on TV where its legal I always say i could never do that. Cmere deer and other similiar products all serve one purpose, baiting deer and thats why i think it shouldnt be sold in a state that does not allow it. Corn, apples and things like that all serve an alternative purpose or purpses such as feeding livestock or human consumption in the case of apples at a grocery store so making them illegal obviously makes no sense. My opinion is that they shouldnt sell the stuff here in NY. its just an opinion and you know what they say about opinions. We all have one and they all stink

  13. LOL I dont feed them ever so it really does not apply to me but i think its hysterical that you can put a bird feeder up but it must be out of range of big game. LMAO What does that mean. What if some messy birds knock bird seed on the floor. I guess you are getting a fine?? Just think that sounds funny. Anyway, thanks for the clarification. Frank
  14. Its so crazy. The issue i have always had with the DEC and the DEC website is that nothing is ever really clear. I asked two different officers about hunting an area in my region. One said you can and one said you cant. I was also told that you can bait if its not hunting season and thats why the "baiting" products can be sold. I think its two weeks before the season that you have to have the "bait out of the woods, or so I was told. As you can see there are different stories with the legality of the Rage 3 broadheads. The contradicting info is so crazy. They need to get this stuff straight because in the end its the hunters who will pay the price of a fine.
  15. Ahh yes the tough guy forum poster. All the guys that were picked on and bullied there entire lives get so tough on these forums. I am sorry you were beat on as a little kid but i did not do it so take it easy. I guess you have something against people that grew up in the city. Just so were clear this "city" guy did the responsible thing and asked a question to find out an answer. I guess you "country" boys just do what you want, no questions asked. Take the law into your own hands. Honestly I am too busy to be wasting my time with you. Beat it!!
  16. Yeah so if you use estrus or a grunt call stay home huh? Those are also attractants. Think before you right because you sound ignorant.
  17. Just did a little research. Sounds illegal to me. Cmere Deer should really rethink the way they word the use of these products as being legal where baiting is ILLEGAL. WOW! someone who does no research could get into alot of trouble.
  18. I had this debate with a friend. Is cmere deer legal in NY. I know it is illegal to bait but we were told that cmere deer is categorized as an attractant and not a food source. I also heard that the liquid is legal anywhere? Does anybody have any experience with this?
  19. I have two questions here: 1. Can you hunt during shotgun season with a bow? 2. If you can what about weekends using a bow during the shotgunn season? I know that there is no shotgun hunting allowed on weekends? Thanks in advance
  20. Im new to hunting the state and DEC lands. I hunted a few spots at Otis Pike but didnt see much. I guess its hit or miss. That was during bow season. I have to imagine gun is different probably alot more deer movemnet due to shotting. I bet you will see alot more does. The bucks probablyget holed up in thick thick cover with all teh gun shots and hunters. JMO. Good Luck
  21. Wow your really taking the word "our" literally huh? Many people say "This is MY car" when if they have a car payment the bank in fact owns the car. No offense but just for the record I am aware that I do not hold title to any deer on the island. it was just a saying on a friendly forum. Jeez, tough crowd.
  22. wow you should play lotto. What spots are you guys looking to hunt?
  23. Thanks for the info. I have a feeling it may be gone by now. As for the "our" deer. My buddy who was thinking about getting a license has been coming out everyday with me. he has been a real trooper and he is officially addicted like most of us. He is going to get his license next year for sure. Anyway I kind of feel like any deer i get would be "our" deer. just as a matter of speaking. I will let you know if the deer is still there, tomorrow.
