Its norther zone if that makes a  Difference in your choice of spots

Maybe someone with more experience can chime in but I think deer wether it’s northern zone to the central ny or other states will use the same type of terrain features. Saddles, benches, pinch points and leeward side of ridges.  Think it’s just a natural movement locations.

I focus on water in new areas because it’s guaranteed to have some of the most diversity in the area and all animals need water to survive.

Based on the information here, this is my suggestion. Two elevation bottlenecks converging. Now, knowing food sources, bedding, etc could really impact a lot of this. It’s really hard to scout just using a map. Boots on the ground is much better.

I was going to say the same. Other spot would be at the other pond location where the hill side comes down and makes a pinch point at the base on the western side.    But like @Splitear said food food and cover will decide but that’s just boots on the ground.

Maps are great to find a starting location but walking it will give you what you need to know.

My daughter plays modified.  I enjoy watching.  And the better they get skill wise the more fun it is to watch.

Yes it is can get intense when they get older.  Our youngest starts modified volleyball Monday and she’s really into it so I have a feeling we may end up traveling with her.

I've always called 10/25 deer day. Killed a few on that day and from that day on I consider it good for the next month.

Everyone likes to talk about the rut. But just before lockdown when the bucks are searching and the does haven't quite got there yet is always good.

I agree my favorite time of year is that last week of October. Bucks want to get the does and most the does aren’t ready yet so bucks are searching non stop looking for the first doe in heat.

  5. Just ordered a second tactacam reveal x.  Going to put it in the are I got all those buck pictures.  Thinking Thursday or Sunday I will sneak in with my bow and back track to where those bucks are coming from and set it up.

not 100% sure where they are bedding but have a decent idea you can see on the map it drops down into a low lying area and can see a transition line on the map. My guess is that’s where they are coming from.  All appear on comers to be either coming from that way or going back that way. The top deer symbol is the transition line the other one is where the last camera was set up.  The stand location is where I encountered the big one opening weekend.

pictures of the deer are the 2 bucks I’m interested in that area.

I’m hoping. Never know but I feel like I have a chance to get a couple again this year.

that bigger buck my buddy has nicked named HD(heavy duty) based on his body size and the small 8 mini HD because he’s always not to far behind the big one.

I know how that works.  My wife sends me up to her parents place in the Adirondacks for 9 days each October to help them get things ready for winter.   Good thing my mother in law is a good cook and there are plenty of other “fun” things up here to keep me occupied.

By end of October if I don’t have anything killed she’s usually giving me crap asking where her fresh venison is.

It isn’t though. Most people have work and family obligations and a finite amount of free time. So maximizing odds is important to some.

Yea this is my issue. Chasing 3 kids around working full time with a bunch of OT and being married. My early season I have to be selective on when my sits occur.

my favorite time to hunt is quickly becoming 10/20-10/30 I’ve encountered more mature deer in those 10 days than any other stretch of time in the season.  Especially if I can get in on a weather front.
