    I don't know how wearing a plastic bag can keep you warm.  I spent bucks, some years ago on a set of thermal coveralls. Now that keeps me toasty warm. Layers of clothing underneath. Wool socks keep my toes from falling off, until my feet sweat, then that ends that. My fingers, all bets are off with those.

    Here's how to keep your fingers warm. Get a good insulated hand warmer muff and put a couple of Hot Hands hand warmers inside. Then wear a pair of light gloves and keep your hands inside the muff until you need to take them out. The hand warmer muff goes around your waist with a strap and will not be in your way. I tried everything else under the sun and this was the only thing that really worked. As a popular saying goes "try it you'll like it." Good luck.

  2. I bought an Arris heated vest a couple of years ago and it really makes a big difference on cold days. You can set the heat on different warming levels and different zones on the front and rear of the vest. The battery is rechargeable and will last a long time and you can buy an additional battery and place it in your pocket. I wear the vest under an insulated hunting parka. In addition to layering with insulated clothing I wear a warm neck gaiter and facemask on cold days and have found they are a great help as you do not want to leave bare skin exposed to the cold.

  3. My son scored on a big wide 6 pt with 10 minutes of shooting time left. He only uses a compound bow and made a perfect double lung shot. We waited an hour and only had to follow the blood trail about 45 yds to make the recovery. And of course old Dad had to help drag him out lol.IMG_20231105_184032.thumb.jpg.00bad06dbf27d2383dfaf46bb232f70e.jpg

    From what I have read there are two sub species of extra large Canada Geese, the Moffit and the so called Giant. The two will interbreed. The Moffit was found mostly on the Pacific flyway and the Giant in the midwest.

    They can turn up anywhere these days because both were raised in captivity and released all over the US.

    I raised regular Canada Geese years ago and they will be as tame as any domestic type.

    =======================================

    The Moffitt's Canada goose is the second largest subspecies of Canada goose. It possesses a long neck and bill; similar to that of the slightly larger giant Canada goose (B. c. maxima). It can also have small, white patches found over its eyes or forehead, a trait more commonly found on maxima. Their coloration is paler than that of most other subspecies but slightly darker than maxima, sporting a pale gray-brown body and whiteish breast. Many individuals also have a white collar at the base of the neck. They also have large, broad wings

    The giant Canada goose is often mistaken for the Moffitt's Canada goose. However, giant geese have both a lower call and a larger bill to body size ratio. Another good identifier includes the black on the neck, which starts much farther up the neck than any other subspecies. The giant goose's white cheek patch is very large, reaching the lower bill. Unlike other variants, the underbelly is very pale. A less reliable identifier is the white forehead and eyebrows, which don't always occur and Moffitt's geese less commonly have. The wings measure between 480 mm (19 in) to 550 mm (22 in). The tail is between 147 mm (5.8 in) to 170 mm (6.7 in).[1]

    Al thank you for the valuable information. For reference here is another pic of Waylon and the birds that I took in my blind right after Waylon brought the birds to me.PXL_20231101_132636706.thumb.jpg.da723a38dc75397b9f36eed212021f50.jpg

  5. Went out this morning solo with my dog Waylon. Shot a pair of big Canada geese that came in perfectly to my small spread of decoys. My dog Waylon loves to pose with the birds and for reference Waylon weighs 70 lbs. which will give you an idea of the size of the birds. I quit after that as there was no way I was going to carry a third bird out lol. PXL_20231101_134506305.thumb.jpg.691f4b4fc4e59b1657cef81657aa2550.jpg

  6. Cook tough meat in a pressure cooker to make it tender. The pressure in the cooker breaks down the connective tissue in the meat which makes it tough and chewy. When done correctly the meat can be sliced with a fork only.

  7. Today was the first of 2 special waterfowl hunt days for veterans and active duty military personnel in the Western zone. My son and his Supervisor are both Army veterans and went out this morning. I went along to video the hunt and handle my son's dog Gunner. They both had a great hunt and limited out. Another day to remember.PXL_20231007_142403593_MP.thumb.jpg.63ada6ec2aeed7383cb3dc502aa089d0.jpg

  8. My son and I have been using one for many years and it is an essential part of our field dressing kits. We have found that once you insert it twist it one and a half times but no more for best results. Then pull steady but slowly without stopping. Though it is obviously over priced for a piece of plastic, it does work very well and will last a lifetime.

  9. This morning was our last hunt of the early season. We scored on 18 birds today. It was Gunner's turn today and at 20 months old he did a spectacular job. Gunner found and retrieved 3 of the birds which fell into the standing corn and we probably would have never found all of them without him. You can't say enough good about a good hunting dog.

  10. Back out this morning. Today we had the pleasure of bringing along 2 new goose hunters and it was a shoot em up day. Total take was 35 birds. Pic is of my son and me and of course my dog Waylon. It is a great reward bringing out new hunters and having them enjoy a good hunt with us.
