  1. So I got a rather large and unexpected DSG/F&S gift card this Christmas and Im thinking of putting it towards a Crossbow for next season. Saw the Barnett Gamecrusher 3.0 and few other crossbows for under $300 right now on F&S website. Mostly Barnetts. Any opinions/ recomendations on Xbows in that range they carry? Im an avid bowhunter and im not looking to add another $1000+ item to the arsenal. Im more or less looking to try something new and have another option in the playbook.
  2. High power rechargeable flashlight with multicolor settings.
  3. Worst Day: Missing a really nice doe at ten yards with my bow because I hit the one branch I didnt notice sticking up out of my natural blind. This was my third blown opportunity that week... Best day: Harvesting my first public land deer!
  4. Whats your favorite piece of gear that outperformed your expectations or unexpectedly became essential on your hunts. Anything from stuff you grabbed on clearance to items that punch above their price tag. Something that comes to mind for me was an Allen shooting stick I picked up from Amazon/Walmart for under $10. I wanted to try a Primos one but at $50 I couldnt justify it so I tried the Allen one thinking I could get an idea of how it would help my hunts and upgrade later on. Well two years and many trips later I have yet to feel the need to upgrade and any sit Im on that stick is right there to steady those long shots and has been a game changer in the blind. https://www.amazon.com/Allen-Deluxe-Shooters-Staff-Adjustable/dp/B000AU4RTU/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1511919919&sr=1-1&keywords=allen+shooting+stick
  5. I hunt out of a Field and Stream Magnum. It's been great for rifle and bow hunting. My only issue is sometimes you can unfold a hub the wrong way and end up with a hub being backwards resulting in another hub unable to expand. i imagine other blinds would have similar issues. not a big deal if you practice setup and take down in the yard a few times. came with a nice bag with shoulder strap and im able to fit a small tripod chair in it as well. roomy enough to hunt two people with and imagine bow too if your so inclined.
  6. I also just started following his content. He drew me in with a video on DIY elk hunting trips.
  7. It's refreshing to see guys go out and NOT shoot a slammer every episode like clockwork or have their hunt blown out by another hunter or any of the usual stuff us regular guys go through. When I watch traditional hunting shows now my eyes start to glaze over...
  8. Hello all! I'm a long time lurker on these forums but I finally decided to sign up. I've been hunting and fishing all my life. The last couple of years I've been scouting and hunting public land to give myself as many options as possible during season. I've also recently started creating Youtube content. This is a great site and I've learned alot from you guys over the years!
  9. Youtube is where its at. My new favorite channels are The Hunting Public and Midwest Whitetails. Tim Galati is a long time favorite. theres countless amateur guys putting out good content too. The best part s you can hit the subscribe button and customize your viewing experience to see the kind of content you enjoy on a regular basis.
  10. Interesting, I'm sure a middle ground could be found though. We rarely have snow enough to snowmobile here in the southern tier till after christmas.
  11. @mowin I saw that deal! My nephew was back and forth between that and the 870 for $229. He figured if he had to pick the shotgun would get him trigger time almost year round!
  12. Add a week to muzzleloader/late archery, charge for a doe tag, and use the proceeds towards expanding our public lands. Crossbow guys get 4 weeks and muzzleloader guys get 2. plus more land for everybody.
  13. Me and my wife are sharing her Honda Fit at the moment and needless to say, its been a sore topic in our house since October 1st .
  14. I used to loathe DSS when i was younger but I've realized in recent years that by planning my purchases around sales and buying things for next years seasons I can usually come out ahead. With the new Field and Stream in Albany it's also nice to have a local store with an actual selection of outdoor equipment when you need something on demand.
  15. I made the decision a few years ago that instead of a spending money that season on a new gun or something else shiny, I would take steps to make long sits more comfortable. Started with the best insulated, waterproof, and comfortable boots i could afford. I also started carrying a backpacking stove to make hot soup or coffee on really cold days ( I hunt from the ground). I also wear wool socks and try to carry an extra pair in case my feet get wet or sweaty. All this coupled with appropriate clothing has made a world of difference for me. Sometimes i get a little too cozy and start to doze off hahaha.
  16. glad to see you guys getting out again. Your channel is was started me calling dogs!
