I always wondered how deer learned to fly. Handsome fellow that Santa is!!!! Snow on the ground at nine creek. Sitting at the base of a big oak overlooking the creek bottom. With the flintlock and buckskins it is easy to drift off to another time.

A historical look at how deer learned to fly!

Back out with my grandson this afternoon. Lots of recent daytime pics on the trail cameras. Light rain but no wind so far. Fingers crossed today is his day.

Grandson and I harvested a doe around 3:15. Wish he would have shot it but due to the way we were setup I was the only one with a shot but he was right there and I am calling it our harvest. Only deer we saw all day. Nice end to a good day with him

More than likely this afternoon will be the last deer hunt this year that my grandson can join me. Although it has been a slow year for us and so far today has produced no deer sightings, I am thankful for the opportunity to spend some time with him. Still a couple of hours left today. We both have tags to fill so who knows. Fingers crossed

He is 16 years old. He got his first deer last year. We are still working on getting him one this year

Sitting here with my grandson reminds me of way back when all this hunting was new to me. The anticipation and excitement, the rookie mistakes I made, the deer killed and the deer missed, the shared hunts with friends and my brother. Even the bad days were good now that I look back at them. Over my wool today, I am wearing my original decades old blaze orange vest. It is a bit worn just like the guy wearing it but the tales it could tell.
Good luck Everyone,

Hunting with my grandson this morning. The creek we need to cross to get to where we wanted to go today, was running high. Somehow we got across in the dim light without getting our feet too wet. Ice pellets and wet snow is falling. We are hunting from the ground in a patch of thick hemlocks. Other than the sound of the ice pellets all is quiet. A classic morning of deer hunting. Fingers crossed that we get the opportunity to take a deer but even if we do not, today is a success. Who knows how many more hunts I have in me? Good luck to all. Cherish your time afield regardless of whether you take a deer.

Five trail cameras at my hunting spot reveal very little activity both day or night for the last two weeks. Previous to that, had all sorts of pictures on the cameras.

the buckskins are handmade brain tan deer. They were tanned and sewn by a very good friend of mine.

Slow day here in 9h. No deer sightings. Maybe the last hour will produce?

A short video titled Twas the Day before the Opener. My wish to all for a safe and successful (no matter how you define it) opening day

Dino,
Sugar shack is looking great. No deer so far here today but it ain’t, over yet. Good luck at your blind. Be careful in the canoe.

Quiet day in the blind so far in 9m. Trail cameras at the blind indicate that I should have been here yesterday the 13th. Getting close to that magic last hour of the day so I am still hopeful. Nice day regardless of the outcome.

Hi Dino
Good luck
Slow here at camp. Running out of time on this hunt. One more day and then it’s back to work until the weekend

Nice.
Couple of question s: any issue with walking around in buckskin and a coon hat during hunting season? And why no nock on string or did I miss it?
I have no more concerns than if dressed in camo during archery season. I would not dress in this fashion during gun. The area I am hunting is not public and is my land. Never had any issues but your concerns are well taken and valid.
You can’t see a nocking point on the screen but there is one made of black thread. -
NY Bowhunter and Splitear,
Thank You.
Tim,
Thanks. Great to hear from You. Never seems to be enough time to do everything we have to do and want to do. Hope to see you around one of these days. Best of Luck Hunting.

Dino,
Good luck on your quest to take a deer with a stone point. I believe you can do it and boy what a accomplishment it will be when it happens. Take care, Brian
