So stupid....got my scents out, freshened my scrapes, got in the blind, opened my shooting windows, loaded my bow, just got settled, saw a stick in my way outside my blind and reached out to break it off, and there he was, a nice 8. AND THEN he was gone....stupid....stupid...stupid me.

Tell us more about it, ive never seen one like it. Is it light? Looks like a fishing machine
It is a catamaran type kayak called a wavewalk. Made for fishing and ocean use. Weighs 88lbs i think empty and is about 11' long. Sold my basstracker and bought this since i do most my fishing alone....wavewalk.com

thank you all for the responses. I sighted in at 20, 30 and 40 and am pretty comfortable shooting at those ranges but in the woods alot can go wrong ie hit a branch you didn't see, miscalculate yardage, etc. so I think I am going to keep it within my bow range 25-30 yards this year till I get more practice time in. I can consistantly get it in a 2" circle at 40 yards on a vice and about 5.5" offhand but then my offhand shots really deteriorate the further back I go due to a lack of practice. At 20 yards off hand I am at about 3" and 30 yards at about 4" - so fairly comfortable up to 30 for live targets. thanks for the responses and tips everyone.

New to crossbow - I have an excalibur crossbow 200# pull/305 fps and am sighted in with broadheads at 20 yards. I picked the excalibur because I do not have any bow shops near by that stock strings and cables for changing. The recurve crossbow allows me to do that with minimal hassle. The scope calls for shooting it in at 20,30,40,50, and 60 yards. I think the farthest I would shoot a deer with any bow would be about 30-35 yards. I have a 1 pin sight on my vertical bow sighted in at 26 yards. Should I bother sighting the cross bow in at the above ranges or just see where the ballistic scope dots put the bolts out to in yardage. What is a good consistent killing range for a crossbow?
thanks

Crossbows may also be used to take deer or bear during limited portions of bowhunting seasons as follows, provided that the hunter possesses the muzzleloading privilege:

- During the last 10 days of the early bowhunting season in the Northern Zone; this includes the 7-day early muzzleloader season in the Northern Zone;
- Only Bow/Muzz tags, DMPs or DMAPs may be use during these times.
However: NO 4J
Crossbows may not be used under the following conditions:
-
To take deer or bear in the following areas of the state:

Got to love lawmakers making the rules for something they know nothing about!

I use red dots on my turkey shotgun 870 and my coyote shotgun...simple and fast target aquisition. I have an astigmatism so its more of a line than a dot for me

Got out to one of my stands, fresh rubs in the area, saw 1 scrape. Checked my dripper (buck urine)....still full. Turns out the dripper was clogged. After unclogging, re filled with some estrous. 2 weeks no dripping...sucks....maybe daddy buck will brighten my day! Was going to freshen up my other 2 drippers but ran out of time fixing this one...time to hunt!

I have taken the course brother. Got the certificate and the hunting license.
awesome....probably anywhere upstate a bit...lots of forests and public land NYCDEP can probably offer you more info since they opened up many of the watershed properties for hunting.

Hello everyone!
I am new to NY. I have never had a hunting license in the US. I just had a couple of questions. I live in NYC. I wish to hunt with a crossbow. Could anyone of you suggest hunting grounds closest to NYC? Also I am a newbie to crossbow hunting. I would really appreciate it if you guys suggest a good crossbow to get.
Thanks in advance!
you didn't mention it BUT you need to take a hunter safety course before you can hunt!

Bonehead moves?
in Deer Hunting
Posted
just yesterday - layed down scent trails, got in my blind and situated, thinking wouldn't it be nice if a buck came in right away like the stories you read, decided to move a branch out of the way from the shooting window - and there he was 8 pointer, then he was gone...stupid me. Opening day found a deer under me but my release was still on my bow. too many others to mention over the years.
