  1. Great buck, you can tell he’s old by the head! FWIW, I compared the teeth off a 7 or 8 year old buck my lease partner killed this year to a 4 year old I killed and couldn’t tell much difference to be honest. Maybe idk what I’m doing, but seems buck specific traits like what they prefer to eat would impact it quite a bit. My buck was mostly acorns whereas my buddies was typical ag diet. The only reason we know his deer was 7 or 8 is because a neighbor 1/2 mile away had good trail cam history with the deer back to 2016 and he was either 3 or 4 then
  2. Not literally lol. Stalk him or go to where you think they are going to bed/eat. That’s how I killed my buck this year. They make lots of mistakes when with a hot doe just make sure to stay downwind of them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Go after him if he has a hot doe. That’s the most susceptible position to have a buck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Proficiency on the range and proficiency on the stand are two totally different things. Someone can be a great shot but get excited, not stop the deer, hit a branch, etc. I hunt some areas that administer a shooting test and still see plenty of poor shots. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Definitely right about that but mine is a tack driver fortunately. Also the flip side to that coin is they usually don’t go very far even if your placement is off a little Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. They really are cannons lol. Agree on the conversions. I’ve thought about doing a custom rig but the conversion handles all my needs and more so haven’t been able to rationalize it yet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. My woods and fields are dead. Assuming deer are holed up and not moving until it warms up a bit around 9-10. Unfortunately I’ve got a meeting at ten and have to bail soon. Will be back this afternoon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Damn and I thought I had some fire power! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Good idea, will do. Stay tuned! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. 275 grain Pittsman Accumax with 65 grains of IMR 4198 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Hankins, like moog said. Three seasons, couple states, 15-20 deer and only one went over 100 yards (150 to be exact). Yet to be disappointed. Here’s the exit hole on a doe I doubled lunged a couple days ago Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Get a smokeless conversion for a CVA 45/70. I use mine all during gun and occasionally take deer out to 300. Basically shooting a single shot rifle and it’s DEADLY. By far the most carnage I’ve ever seen a weapon unload on a deer. They don’t go far and leave plenty of blood unlike most of my buddies smoke poles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. 40+ does and only two small bucks tonight. Wind kept playing games with me and doing the opposite of the forecast. I didn’t get blown out but the does were pretty spooky and I guess the bucks got the memo. I really wish NY didn’t limit us to 6 doe tags, kind of a joke for some areas like mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Is the wind playing games with anyone else? Supposed to be SE but I’ve had it do at least one 360 on me so far Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. After two weeks of waiting finally got the right wind to go after my #1 target. Siting between picked corn and wheat, surrounded by creek bottom. This property has only been hunted once during gun and a couple times during bow so typically has really good day time movement. I spent the last week dropping five does to keep my farmer happy so horns or nothing tonight. Good luck to all those still out trying to punch tags! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Is there an area for him to bed in there or a food source for him to visit? Figure out why he’s in that area and hunt it accordingly. Personally, I don’t hunt AMs this late in the season. Bucks are mostly back in their beds close to day light and too easy to get blown out. If it’s a bedding area you’ve tracked him too I’d set up on the downwind edge mid day. If you have a food source I’d set up for the afternoon. And lastly I wouldn’t use doe scent. You’ve found him, no need to draw him in. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Out on doe patrol in 8H. Would take a buck too but haven’t seen any shooters on this property in over a month. Hoping the snow gets them to hit the picked corn field behind me a little early tonight [emoji1696] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I was planning on going out, but now I’m heading out even earlier now haha. Hopefully can get it on the action Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I’ve been getting lit up since 11 with 1.5 to 3.5 year olds. Assuming a hot doe too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Slow day in the woods in 8H. To make it even more painful, as soon as I got to my spot I received these cell cam pics from a property I hunted yesterday. Gotta see what the wind does tomorrow but will most likely try to make a move on him as he was trailing a doe and hopefully is still around Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Pretty dead in 8H. First and only shot heard at 720... first time I can remember everyone being legal. Seen about a dozen does and one small buck in the cut corn field I’m on, hoping something mature decides to come check out the ladies [emoji1696] good luck all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Finally getting back on the forum! It’s been a crazy year with work since COVID started and I’m sorry to all those that reached out about leasing... I’m just seeing those messages and didn’t intentionally ignore you so please don’t take it personally! I haven’t been out as much as normal and had planned to take two weeks off in November after a big work project but I was fortunate to harvest a beautiful public land buck (my #2 target) the day before my final presentation. It’s been pretty hard sitting out the rut lol but I’ve at least got all my stuff in order to hit the ground running Saturday. Rut still going strong in 8H/F, watched my #1 target tend a doe yesterday afternoon when I was pulling cards and seeing good cruising activity on the cams. Congrats to all those that have scored and good luck to you all trying to punch a tag before gun! Looking forward to contributing more on here going forward Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
