I couldn't even watch the video. Just pisses me off that A.) Some "people" do think this is acceptable behavior, and B.) The humane society feels the need to smear all who partake in our great sport by releasing the video. I mean, they didn't just get this from a leak, they actually took the time to file a FOIA request. I have some sympathy for someone who poaches a deer here and there because he cannot afford food from the grocery store (out where I grew up it was quite common) and needs to feed his family, but these @$$holes are just killing for sport. Complete disrespect for the lives of the creatures God created for us. https://www.ktuu.com/content/news/Video-of-Alaska-father-and-son-illegally-killing-bear-shrieking-cubs-made-public-507736061.html

FYI - There's legislation in NY A556 https://www.nysenate.gov/…/bil…/2017/a556/amendment/original that has passed increases the minimum fines, increases them even more for repeat offenders, and effectively takes away license for 5 years in 48 states. .....BUT Governor Andrew Cuomo has yet to sign it. If he doesn't by the end of this year it dies and does not become law. I know it's hunting season but spread the word! Even better let him know. https://www.governor.ny.gov/content/governor-contact-form

All, Legislation S387 is a poaching bill that is almost passed but needs help! It increases poaching fines here in NYS for those bold enough to shoot a deer out of season or "jacking" them at night with a light, especially so for repeat offenders. the bill even includes provisions for temporary loss of hunting privileges. It has already passed in the Assembly. It has made it through committee unopposed and has been read for the last time in the Senate. All that needs to happen is for it to be scheduled for a vote on the Senate floor. Last year it was in the same situation but later in session. Not enough people expressed how important it was to them. It sat on a polished desk and never got scheduled and thus passed. There are only so many legislative sessions left to do so. Contact your Senator to let them know you want this to come to a floor vote and pass. More importantly contact Senator Flanagan's office as his office does the scheduling. If you live between Melville and Port Jefferson on Long Island then let him know your a voter and it's important it passes. Bills out right now to amend current environmental conservation law, increasing fines for shooting deer out of season or basically jacking them at night. NYS assembly A556 and NYS senate S387. the bills were reintroduced from last session where it almost made it to the senate floor to complete pass, but simply ran out of time. It already passed in the assembly (again) but seems to be stalling in the senate (again). to date counting all sessions it's only gotten a single no vote. it's in the senate environmental committee now. O'Mara is the chair to get it out of committee. Feel free to call his office to show your support 518-455-2091 (albany office) and 607-735-9671 (local office). Lets get this passed before hunting season. Screw a poacher by telling friends.

It's been posted before.... NYS Senate Bill S4727B increases the fines for illegally taking (poaching) deer. it's passed through committee and passed unanimously 97-0 through the Assembly and passed through the environmental conservation committee in the senate. It's possibly a couple days from a floor vote by the senate to be fully passed. it only needs to be scheduled for a floor vote, in which it will surely pass by a land slide. it just has to be scheduled. the man that has to allow and schedule it for a floor vote is..... Senator John J. Flanagan 518-455-2071 [email protected] feel free to copy his legislative aid - [email protected] this is really close to getting passed and will give poachers much more reason for worry and reconsider doing it in the first place. take a minute to get ahold of them and let them know you support it. FYI - you support this or you're the poacher!

Hillary Endorses Poaching Crack Down Hillary Clinton Joins Fight Against Elephant Poaching The news comes just a few weeks after President Obama pledged $10 million to slow illegal wildlife trafficking in sub-Saharan Africa By Amanda Taselaar July 18, 2013 Follow @timenewsfeed Despite international bans, demand for ivory from elephant tusks has grown so strong that it has devastated elephant populations in Africa. Now former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, wants to help. According to the Washington Post, Clinton has met with representatives from many environmental groups and National Geographic to formulate a plan. “She will use her political connections as America’s former secretary of state to enlist other world leaders in the effort to curtail the illegal ivory trade.” Because China buys about 40 percent of the ivory traded globally, she will focus her efforts there, according to the South China Morning Post. Clinton’s move comes just two weeks after President Obama announced new funding to curb elephant poaching: He has earmarked $10 million to combat wildlife trafficking in sub-Saharan Africa. The African elephant population has dropped from 1.2 million in 1980 to just 420,000 last year. According to the Post, about 30,000 elephants were killed illegally last year, with their tusks selling for as much as $1000 a pound. (The U.S. banned the import of ivory from African elephants in 1989, with the exception of antiques). While all elephants have been devastated, the African forest elephants are particularly at risk. These elephants are smaller than the renowned savannah African elephant and live in more open forest clearings that easily attract poachers. The Wildlife Conservation Society estimated that their population has fallen by about 76 percent in the last decade. Reuters A Kenyan wildlife ranger inscribes markings on the 775 elephant tusks, weighing around 1300 kg (2900 pounds), that was seized by the port police at the container terminal destined for Malaysia in the coastal town of Mombasa July 3, 2013. Just released a few minutes ago, the NY DEC announced that NY DEC officers ticket dozens of poachers over the past few weeks. The full announcement from the DEC and list of locations as well as those involved in the incidents is attached in PDF to this article. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) police officers recently concluded a blanket deer taking enforcement detail in the Capital Region and surrounding areas in conjunction with the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont, DEC announced today. Environmental Conservation Officers (ECO) worked in conjunction with their counterparts in neighboring states to set up saturation patrols to target illegal deer shooting with the use of an artificial light, a practice commonly known as deer jacking. Typically, deer jacking occurs in remote rural areas, throughout the night. During this operation, which took place in late October and the first three weeks of November, ECOs worked long hours and often confronted armed individuals. “The vast majority of hunters pursue and take game legally,” said DEC Law Enforcement Major Tim Duffy. “We work closely with the sporting community to stop individuals from illegally taking game to the detriment of wildlife populations and the legal efforts of honest hunters.” ECOs are out in full force this time of year patrolling, staking out, and observing the lands on which people take deer. They are in uniform and undercover; they are in vehicles and on foot; they are checking licenses and watching over deer decoys.
