09/15/12 - CT Bowhunt Opening Day

In at 6:30 out by noon

In again at 3:00 PM out by O'dark hundred (7PM)

Morning session was empty, well almost....:-) I called in a human being to my FoxPro with Whitetail in distress...LOL. Got a good

shooting lane on him and everything but I'm tagged out for Humans :-) So, it was NO GO....

In the afternoon I saw nothing and I spooked a pair of does on the way out. Then started still hunting and spotted a large doe

staring at me so I froze and didn't move a muscle for a while. After she was done checking me out and was cool with me there she

was moving propendicular to me at the slow pace. I used a large tree that was between us as my advantage, while I was blocked by

that tree I could safely get my arrow and place it in my Matthews Bow. Then it hit me, my release was already in my pocket, "screw

it" I thought, I will shoot with my fingers....The doe kept moving left slowly, I have no shooting lane whatsoever but a great one

is coming if she just keeps going...she does...My mind is racing: "how far is it?" Hmm, 30-35 yards methinks....cool, she is now in

my view...I drew and hold...stabilized and let it go...pufff...way too low and a bit far back. Now, she is just super pissed, she

didn't run away or anything just got scared and turned around. Started hissing/puffing and shit, stomping like crazy, yeah...You

know what's comes next...She is gone to another county with a high jumps... In hindsight, I'm actually glad that I didn't hit her,

it was 20 min before legal light and it was a long shot, if I hit her It would be probably a gut shot since it was way too far and

low, then again I would be probably still looking for her.Well, so here you have it, I got my practice shot and some good time in the woods, there is always tomorrow (not actually since CT does not hunt on Sundays) but you know what I mean. Its good to be back hunting....
