growalot
Since I mucked up the morning hunt...I took some time to cool down and warm up...then went out and shot some arrows...it's been a couple of days and the cold temps stiffen these old muscles up...Feeling good... draws smooth and right in the kill zone...Though need to be mindful of jacket sleeve and bend elbow out a bit...string hitting sleeve makes some noise!..... now if I can only be a bit more stealth this time...headed out now...Good Luck all.... growalot
Wow..... should have stayed in bed today...lol Went back out and sat from 12 to 6...saw birds and squirrels...actually thousands...5 flocks of grackles flew over...luckily they didn't stop this time...headed north today??? Then call Mr B. and asked if he had blood work tomorrow...yep...so needed to get home to get dinner before 8pm.....take arrow off bow and hung it while getting quiver and what not set....the wind had blown with good gusts south /south east all afternoon...I hear the leafs crunching and in trot a bunch of deer from the N/W of me..seriously again!! First I can't believe they never winded me...second...now I'm scrambling to get set up again and they are just 10yrds out circling to my front...set up ant look up to see the giant doe with 2 fawns 50yrds out...and feeding toward me...then in comes the other big doe and she's 15yrds broads side behind and apple tree...but glancing my way...I get ready to draw and as soon as she clears ...the head turns and she's looking my way again...I let her walk farther and glance to my east to see the sun is still lighting up the tree tops...still legal...I come to full draw and I know shes 24 yrds out now because I'd ranged the opening earlier...All I could think was I can't let the shot get back too far she's not angled enough...The second I released!!!...I knew I pulled the shot...and I watched it sail right in front of where her neck meets her chest....Thank God clean miss but could have shaved the hairs...she and others bolt then she stops....None to happy about what just happened and walks stiff legged back at me....no time left to even think about shooting...grabbed cell and 6:25p.m ..Then all others come back...Hell stuck in tree any how....they finally moved far enough away to climb down with out notice and walk out...home at 7pm....I'll have to go out to retrieve the arrow tomorrow mid day So actually another great hunting day...lots of action be it good or bad...and all good..for learned things and clean miss...should have known not to bother though...concentration was shot to hell in the first place...Though had I not pulled that shot it would have been mid line on her good to know and my scent routine seems to be working....lol
