New born fawn 5/29/13

Well this little guy was hanging out on the edge of a vineyard yesterday morning, about 2 foot off the mowed head land in a hedgerow. He was still wet, think mom must have just dropped him, and maybe we spooked her.

Alot of Fawns popping up the past week! If anyone knows the gestation period of deer, you could backtrack and figure out when the most breeding was done last fall.

I just googled it. From my calculations, most of these does were bred the first week of November.

Always like seeing the first fawns of the season still wet behind the ears!

Too many folks think these little ones are orphaned and need help, but that's usually not the case.

I was watching two twins last spring that were orphaned, or abandoned, as spotted fawns in my creekbottom. They survived all the way through deer season together, and I never once saw a mature momma doe with them.
