Smoking hides

I am at the smoking stage and am having a real hard the keeping two hides together. I am using Elmer's Glue as recommended but the hides are not exactly the same size/shape. I think it will old together but there ae lots of gaps(some of which I think I will be using clothe pins to hold shut). I highly doubt i will be able to turn it inside out to smoke the other side without it ripping the glue seam,
