Chef
So I have some vacation time and was thinking of taking a few days during the end of bow or the beginning of gun and going somewhere new to hunt, has anyone ever hunted this park or does anyone have any suggestions of state parks that either have lodging or know of one with lodging near by that would be fun to hunt ? PREDATE
I've only fished & picknicked there. My cousin bowhunts there. The nearest lodging would be the motel in Deposit. I hunt in Deposit sometimes.
PREDATE
You could check out Bear Spring Mountain 30 miles east in Walton,NY 7,000 acres. I know they have campsites, but not sure about lodges. Edited September 19, 2014 by PREDATE
Chef
Predate, the park now has a cabin for rent. Any idea how the hunting is in the park, how about bear spring. Would it be a decent place for someone who hasen't really had time to scout the park to hunt ?
PREDATE
not sure about the hunting, but the time you indicated is peak rut, so you might have a decent chance. There is plenty state land down that way so opening weekend of gun should bring alot of movement. If you choose state land for opening day, get in early and stay all day. Let the other hunters move the deer.
AaronBlaine
I agree with predate. The timing is perfect! The other hunters will push deer around from all over all damn day. You can still get them without scouting. Find a good spot with plenty of sign and hang out. Spending the entire day will pay off! Staking a claim to an area so other hunters keep away is also important so be careful if you move you will most likely give up your spot come opening day rifle.
