tj1187
I was wondering if anyone has bee hives that are low maintenance.Planted ten apple trees last spring and a little clover. Want to pollenate trees but also looking to help the bee population. Not looking to make honey or spend a lot of work and money. The area around the 'orchard" is mostly Hardwoods.Any suggestions. growalot
No bee hive is low maintenance if done right...you also need more that one and then the components(hives) to keep your hive from growing too big and swarming...they need year around monitoring and have to be on a specific schedule for medications/bug/rodent control and then winter feedings They are living creatures that need care..just like a pet or live stock. growalot
BTW...I'm sure you have bee keepers in your area that would be willing to put hives on your place...they can be close to the road as not to interfere with your land...then they will give you honey...for professional bee keepers need approximately 7 miles between hive sets at a minimum.
