Scope for M1 Garand

As I am getting older and my glasses getting stronger, using iron  sights on my Garand for hunting is getting harder. I need  help in selecting a good  base and scope for this weapon.

Can't help you with a base, I'm sure Pygmy will be by he's like an expert on these old war clubs. I'm sure Pyg will give the same advice but on a rifle like that I would think a fixed or variable scope in the 1.5-4 range would be more than adequate and not add much weight.

Sorry, I can't help you, Pointman..Due to the M1s top loading, you are limited to either a port side mounted scope ( very awkward, )or perhaps  a LER scope mounted ahead of the receiver..

I have no experience, nor interest  in carrying around a rifle with either of those scope mounting options.
