  2. If you burnt out a 2500lb winch I would be getting a bigger one. I don’t know what brand Polaris uses but the quality winches are better than the harbor freight/northern tool ones. Is they’re enough better to justify the price is arguable, but when you need a winch is usually the worst time for it to fail so a couple hundred bucks is cheap insurance in my book! 3. Cool idea but not of any use to me. With wool pants taped to my boots as long as I don’t stand in it I can get through water without getting wet as long as it doesn’t come in my front pockets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. If I’m on a track that I really want to be following there’s really only 4 things that make me call it off, river that’s over my pants pockets, “ I’ll spend a lot of time looking for a place to cross!” Snow melting, if I come across a bigger track and, dark. As far as getting them out of the woods. If they’re under 180ish lbs i make backpack straps with their legs and carry them out. If their over 180 I have a very hard time getting them up on my back so I drag. Tuck their front feet behind their horns cut a sapling or branch longer than my hips are wide. Tie rope around neck and front legs and tie to both ends of the stick just long enough for me to get in the loop. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. They’re actually awesome dog chews, my vet recommends them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. There’s no free lunches, everything is a give and take. I know I can shoot tighter groups with a scope as well at a target, but as long as I can put 1 in the middle of a deer I know I’m going to get him so I don’t care about group size. Scopes are an excellent aid and if there’s not snow on the trees or coming from the sky I hunt with a scope. If there is than I won’t take the chance and just carry a gun with a peep. 9. Dry firing is your friend! You can do it in your house for free. I dryfire 5 or 6 times a week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Before you worry about snap shooting work on your freehand shooting. Once your groups start Shrinking then start working in some snap shooting. Your best tracking days it’s very difficult to keep a scope clean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. By open sights do you mean open sights or a peep sight? Also what do you mean by good shot? I personally hate the standard open sights not because I can’t shoot them well enough but because they cover too much of my target and it’s surroundings. A peep gives you a lot more open sight picture to be able to see branches and sampling etc. If you’re constantly hitting a pie plate at 50yds that’s more than good enough! 12. No, I don’t know anyone that uses them. What do you do with the sticks when a buck jumps up 20yds from you? I’ve never worried about the long shots because I’ll have time to get ready and most times I’m carrying a gun with iron sights, 150yds is as long as I want to shoot. 150yds is a shot I’m perfectly comfortable taking trying to get a bullet in the middle of a deer without a rest. If I have time to set up shooting sticks I have time to take a kneeling position or lean against a near by tree for added support. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. If you’ve ever saw the episodes where he hunted with the old guy I believe it was his uncle it’s what I imagine a day in the woods with Pygmy would be like. Those were my favorite episodes, I don’t think I’ve watched one since the old timer died. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I don’t really have an end goal. I’ve had a couple ideas but I want to see how it turns out before getting in too deep with it. I got banged up a bit overseas, it’s not getting better that’s why I want to do this while I can. Thanks for the offer! I may take you up on it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. For now personal use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. For those of you that are already tracking or are interested in it now is the time to be honing your shooting skills. I shoot one of me deer rifles at least weekly. I’m lucky to be able to shoot in my back yard. I know many don’t have that ability but you can still be practicing properly at a public range. The drills I did this week was 3 shots at a 10” steel plate at 50yds from a carry position. My carry position is my hand right hand wrapped around the receiver. As a left eye dominant right handed person that shoots left handed this is what I’ve found to be most comfortable and fast. A have a very basic free shot timer app on my phone. I averaged just under 4 seconds from beep to 3rd hit at 50yds. You don’t need steel targets a paper target will work the same, the only difference if I miss a shot I shoot until my 3rd hit. I shot 2 boxes of ammo. The first box was single shots. From carry position to shot. The second box was the 3 shot drill. It’s a great drill for this style of hunting, I highly recommend it. It works on many aspects of getting the shots off when tracking. I’m working on getting a camera to start filming some of my range work to add to this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. A quick update, I paid a deposit to a young lady that is very interested and motivated. She has some flexibility on dates but as of now I have locked her in for the 3rd week of Nov. I really hope this works out. This could work out very well for both of us. She’s a very liberal college student that has a good amount of filming experience but zero hunting experience. She’s never stepped foot in the woods outside of a city park and never been around a gun let alone fired one. I really hope that her looking at this from a non hunter point of view that she will be able to capture things from a completely different angle than the run of the mill hunting videos that are already out there. Now I just have to hope for favorable conditions for that week or else I will have wasted a good bit of money and time but it’s a risk That I think is worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. There are a few states that do but NY is not one of them. Obviously I’m not a lawyer so don’t try to use my response in court but as an instructor and a Leo I’ve never found such a law. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I did watch the video as well as talk to a very good friend that was there and was also on the unit. When being told to clear a street they don’t say, if someone’s over 75 and under 150lbs they can stay. The officers were told to clear that street of protesters. That particular “protester” decided instead of listening to the police he was going to act like an asshole to the police. The choices he made brought on completely justifiable actions by the police. You’ve been through police training? You know what they do and do not cover? Cops are human beings, after dealing with these protests for nearly a week while being stuck on mandatory 16-18hr shifts I’m sure that particular officer was getting a little sick of the bullshit. If you can’t understand that than you’re part of the problem. If you think you can do better there are departments across the country that are scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill spots! 22. Why, I would love to have video cameras following me. I know how to do my job and most people aren’t going to act like an idiot if they know they’ll be on TV. The ones that don’t care were going to act like an idiot either way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
