mcap
Hey guys, Its my first year hunting NY state and I'm having some tough luck in 3M. Seems like the few pieces of public land open have quite a few hunters and very small deer populations. I've been out 4 days now and haven't seen a thing. I've got the rest of the week off to hunt. If you were in my shoes, and you could go to any WMA (public land of course), where would you go? I'd be happy with any deer, just want to fill my first NY tag! Keith Scanlon
Ive never hunted outside 1C and don't plan on it, for this season at least. My dad got me into bow hunting at a young age and I'm obsessed with the challenge. I don't know if you bow hunt but 1C has deer and a lot of them. Public land is pretty scarce but not impossible to get on. Defiantly not an ideal drive for you but if you do plan on it the DEC website lists all the long island public hunting opportunities. Ive had the most as i go more east. Good luck wherever you end up! Hopefully you can fill a tag. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

upstate
This map is great to locate state land to hunt. It's got roads, hunting spots, terrain, etc. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.html Find a spot, park and go in deep.
Napping in the woods
Stewart is very tough to hunt but there are a ton of deer there, nocturnal movement now though. I've heard good things about Sterling and Mongaup, check permit requirements though. Region 4 has been producing this year, take your pick of WMU's. Also, check NYC DEP Watershed Lands in Putnam and Ulster County. Fahnstock is a challenge and requires permits. Black Creek state Forest near Esopus just opened last year (3J). Haven't seen anything up there yet.A bit further out, the finger lakes and Ithaca areas are pretty good. Catskills can be good, going deep is generally necessary.I've also been hearing really good reports out of the Taconics (east of Hudson/west of CT and MA Line) this year, but haven't spent any time there myself.Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
