Fantail
I need to break in a new plot (NZ), heard good things about Buckwheat or Chickory for the job. So I am interested in regrowth from browse, good time to plant for the plot lasting into Oct., and if it should be a loner plot or a mix. SplitG2
Buckwheat is a good plowdown crop. It will add organic matter to your soil. It also supresses weeds. Plant it when soil temp is over 60deg. Cut and plow under 50-60 days later. You will get a volunteer crop but the 1st frost will kill it. Deer in you area may eat it. Another plowdown/soil builder is berseem clover.
