Yes it's pretty much standard procedure, with a few exceptions.

Open the animal from chest to tail to remove internals.

Exception #1 wear the longest pair of rubber gloves you can find. The fat you will encounter is unreal.

#2 Bear is excellent eating if cared for correctly in the feild. There body fat will retain heat more so than a deer so it's

very important to cool it either by skinning it or by packing the chest cavity in ice as soon as possible and then get it to a cooler.

It guts pretty much like a deer, but it's best to skin it ASAP or it won't cool and the meat will taste bad.  And anything over 250 pounds will have to be quartered for one man to haul it out of the woods.  Keep some small tarps in the truck to put the quartered pieces on when dragging them out.

If you have an 4x4 ATV with decent rubber you can drag it up into a tree then lower it onto the back rack. Pack the cavity with ice ASAP. If you want a rug made make a B line for your taxidermist he can skin it properly and probably quicker than you can.

Remember one thing bears can and do carry Trichanosis meat should be frozen then cooked well done. Something I learned in Veterinary Technology. Yes I passed and hold a license.
