Only two weeks ago, NBC was caught having deceptively edited a 911 tape from the controversial Zimmerman/Martin shooting in Florida. This week, NBC accused Remington Arms Company of manufacturing unsafe firearms—specifically its immensely popular Model 870 and Model 1100 shotguns. Gun owners will also remember the hatchet job that NBC did on the Remington Model 700 bolt-action rifle in 2010.

Remington and the National Shooting Sports Foundation have already set the record straight on the substance of NBC’s current accusation, so for the moment we will address the purely political issues involved, and NBC’s history of dishonest reporting to push its political agenda.

NBC coupled its accusation against the two models of shotguns with a call for all firearms to be subject to the oversight of the Consumer Product Safety Commission, something straight out of the Brady Campaign’s playbook for the last 30-odd years. Gun prohibition activists have always wanted the commission to have the power to declare all firearms inherently too unsafe to be legal for sale. The Brady outfit even called for consumer products regulations on firearms in the gun control proposals it made to President Obama in 2008.

Now, on to some examples from NBC’s history of playing loose with the facts.

NBC did a lousy job with their investigations as each incident they reported on had issues with firearm safety. The nineteen year old who was shot in the leg failed to unload his shotgun and the leaned it against his vehical ( the type of vehical was not stated in the report.). This is a major safety violation as a car will move and shake when you open the doors and put stuff into it. He was shot in the upper thigh, how? If he leaned the gun against the wheel well and it fell to the ground, how did the barrel line up with his upper thigh. This was not explained. He was done hunting and should have unloaded the shotgun first. In my oppinion there is more to this story and it is not cut and dry. How old was the shotgun he was using? It was stated it had been in the family for a while. What was the condition of the trigger system? The incident occured in 1976, what year was the gun manufactured? In older firearms the metalurgy was not what it is today and the steels were softer and wore down quicker. Was this a case of a worn out shotgun that needed repair or retirement?

The second case of the duck hunter in the boat. He did not sue because he did not have a case. He stated he was in a boat traveling when a wave caused his shotgun to fall from its perch on the seat in front of him. Safety is again the issue here. It is unsafe and illeagal in some states to ride in a vehical or vessal whith a loaded firearm. He had his pinky and ring finger shot off. In my home testing sitting on the couch with the gun resting on the coffee table we could not duplicate a situation where a shotgun whith a 24 inch barrel would fall causing your hand to slip over the barrel. Again they did not show the boat or how he was situated or how th gun fell causing the accident. Also it was not varified that the safety was on. I am certain there was other equipment in the boat and it is possible if the safety was off that the trigger could have hit something. here is to many questions here to get a clear answer.

In the third case the man mudered his wife oops by accident. The holes in this story are so big a first year law student could make this case. First the man goes on a weekend trip where he did some target shooting. He then comes home to his family of wich he has 3 young daughters. He goes to clean his gun and is going to blow oil down his barrel hith an air compressor. The wife walks into the garage and the gur discharges when it is bumped while resting on a work bench. First rule of firearms is to never leave a firearm loaded. When yo are done shooting you unload it. It is unsafe and illeagal in most states to travel in a vehical with a loade firearm. Now to the big holes. A good father of 3 young girls would never risk their lives by bringing a loaded firearm into the home. So was he a good father or an imbacile. When cleaning a firearm first check it to ensure it is unloaded. He obviously never heard of this due to the fact that he was about to blow oil down the barrel with a bullet in the way. An air compressor with the right nosel could produce sufficient force to set the triger off. There was no varification as to the position of the safety. The state of the firearm should have been in the report but this was not shown in the story. It was stated that the firearm was not tested for any defects. Most police departments test all firearms functions when prossessing a murder case. If his defence was an accidental discharge of the gun it would have been the focus of the investigation. The reporter did not show any court documents or police reports stating as to why the firearm was not checked for defects. Why? Could it have been because the gun was checked and nothing wrong was found? I am certain the police investigation looked for a motive and most likely found one as the man was convicted. The man is looking to get out of prison and NBC is facilitating the release of a murderer. There is far more to this story and we can talk about it for a long time but again NBC did not give full details surounding the case.

Lets not talk about the engineer guy. He has made claims against a lot of firearms companies stating their arms are unsafe. We are not certain if he is atigun or just trying to sell his patents. In the article he never presented the actual problem in a scientific way nor did he show the solution. If he is really conserned about peoples safety, why does he not produce a replacement trigger group and sell it as an after market part.

Shoddy reporting is what most of these news shows are about. A few bits of information and to few detials to make you think the way they want you to think. This is mind controll 101 and how the Nazi's and Communist's took over coutries. In all these incidencess there was not definitive proof of there being a problem with the triggers. I have not been convinced. My own testing has not duplicated the problem and I would say that the condition of the arms in question may be more of a factor.

I researched the issue further also. Seems the expert witnesses against Remington have designed a new trigger safety and had stated that they would stop testifying against Remington if they use their new design. Not what I call objective testimony.
