Thanks, Biz-R! I really appreciate it!

I can understand that. But, having said that, there certainly seems to be a division between meat hunters, and those who opt for bigger deer. I can't figure that out. I would think that we're all deer hunters, not of one group, or another. To each their own, I guess.

Wow. How in the hell did meat hunters get interjected into this conversation? I would venture to guess that most, if not all, meat hunters would be thrilled with this buck. Why the constant jabs on these forums?

What's an "anti-trophy hunter"?
-
I would most definitely take you up on that offer, Biz-R-O-World. I was unable to get any doe permits at all. Thanks, guys, for the encouragement! I really appreciate it.

While certainly not the biggest deer I've ever gotten, this spike was important to me to fill the freezer, so that my family would have meat. Been laid off for what seems an eternity, and this buck will help us along.

Peta are nothing but a bunch of loons, in my opinion. Considering how many pets they've slaughtered, they shouldn't be critical of anyone!

Where I hunt, houses are far more prevalent than woods. They smell smoke all the time. Theoretically, it's been said that deer can also smell whether you're a meat eater. Should we all stop eating meat also? I actually saw a deer yesterday-a doe, in fact, walk right into a smoke cloud from a chimney-no bs. Didn't bother her a bit.

I left a message............

Okay, I live on the border line of Hyde Park. Now, the question is, if someone could help me butcher my deer I got this morning, in exchange for meat, at my gun club. I would get it butchered, but, to be honest, I simply can't afford it. If interested, please respond. The club is in La Grange, on Daley Road.

I downed an old spike this morning right after having a cigarette. I think they're used to the smoke from the chimney's.

What rut? I've yet to see any groups of does, or, for that matter-any bucks with does. I saw 2 bucks, and 1 doe yesterday. They were all by themselves. Trickle rut? So much for Charlie's prediction!

I had a 6 pointer at about 250 yards this morning, and most certainly passed on the shot. Definitely wasn't comfortable with the distance. I'm using 100 grains (white hots), and a powerbelt bullet. What's the max distance other people have taken deer with the muzzleloader? I'm using a Traditions Thunderbolt.

Understood. I sent you another PM.
-
Dom, I sent you a message.

As in where I live, or where I hunt?
-
I actually hunt private land in Millbrook, and, to be honest, it's been horrible this season. I've yet to see any chasing up there. Blows my mind.
-
Okay Dom. What do you know on this? We actually moved up here from Fishkill 2 years ago, and it seems as though there is virtually no hunting around here. It's weird.
-
Yes it is. There are actually 2 of them running around.
-
The landlord owns the property, and doesn't care. I'm actually going to try to get some video of this deer, if I see it again. I've seen it twice (including this morning), running does. This deer has to be at least 200 on the hoof. As I said-he's BIG.
-
Okay. Here's the situation. I haven't seen anything up where I hunt in 3G. Where I live, though, I've got a huge 8 running does right through my yard, not to mention scraping on the corner of the house. There are 4 acres back here, with unposted land caddy corner to where I live. The closest house would be almost 500 feet from where I would stand. Would you hunt this with the bow, or just not bother? This deer is BIG.

This season is horrible-at least for me. I haven't seen anything. I haven't taken the muzzleloader off "safe" since opening day. It's pretty pathetic. Funny thing, is that I hunt a field, and I still haven't seen anything. Worst season I've had in years!
