  1. I, too, was on NYDEER at one time. During that time, I was definitely undecided when it came to whether I was going to keep hunting. Those guys actually helped keep me in it. They were great people on there. This site is nice, but it's a real turn off for me. I've never seen so much infighting, especially when it comes to antlers. No offense to the creator of the site, but it's true. If you don't get the big buck on here (if you shoot a buck that doesn't meet with someones personal approval), you are effectively viewed as being lazy, a bambi killer, or some other childish thing. It kind of reminds me of a bunch of kids fighting over the biggest piece of candy. That's not camaraderie, as far as I'm considered. Has anyone noticed that a lot of the new people may post a few times, then disappear? I actually enjoy the forum, but not the constant judgement that comes along with it.
  2. Hell, for that matter, we can make it a community affair. You can speak at my gun club, and enlighten them as to how anyone who doesn't fit your agenda, is a "bambi" killer. I wish you luck on that one. If you would like, I'll be more than happy to give you the clubs address. Just let me know.
  3. So let me see if I've got this right. Because someone doesn't put up with your crap, they're a "keyboard bully"? It seems to me, that you're the internet tough guy. As for someone forcing their beliefs down your throat, please enlighten me as to one person who got a smaller buck, said that everyone else should do it. You can't, because it doesn't exist. Now, let's talk about you're smarter mature bucks-you know, the ones that are harvested more during the rut than any other time. How much skill does it take to down a deer that has no common sense during the rut? 0!!! That goes the same for any buck during the rut. I'm strictly a ground pounder. I don't use stands at all-strictly spot & stalk, with bow & gun. I have no problem with people using stands, as it is within the law. Apparently, though, you seem to have a problem with people who don't go by your agenda. That's what kills me. You want to shoot the big buck? More power to you-I couldn't care less. But don't run your mouth, and tell me that if I shoot a smaller buck, over 200 miles from you, that it somehow affects your hunting. When you pay for my license, then you can make the rules. If not, then worry about yourself. I have no problem whatsoever with a face to face encounter. I won't hide behind the computer. Anytime you want to come see me in Po'Town, I'm here. I'll be more than happy to hear your side of the equation.
  4. Ah. The old Nigerian scam. Go figure.
  5. Has anyone else on here gotten phone calls from these scammers? They call, and claim someone owes a debt, and threaten to have you arrested. Tore his a$$ up on the phone today. Sick of them harassing my wife with their scam! By the way, they use American names, but have accents so thick, it's pathetic.
  6. I thought there was a federal grant: www.federalregister.gov/articles/2011/11/16/2011-29500/assistance-to-firefighters-grant-program. Is there some reason why this wasn't pursued by the mayor, or FD?
  7. Because coyotes, in all realities, are NOT originally native to New York. Any info I've dug up on it, indicates they started migrating here in the early 1900's. Any other species that is not native, is considered detrimental, and is pretty much shoot on sight. Why coyotes are not, is beyond me. There's no question they take a toll on native game species.
  8. I can tell you that the southern portion of 3F, there are no shortage of deer. The only reason they're not being seen in the woods (or lack thereof), is because they are in peoples' back yards. Here are prime examples of that. Warren Rd., Fishkill-overwhelmed with deer. Can't hunt them there, because of all the new McMansions. Take a ride through there at any time of the day, and you'll see tons of them along the road feeding in the lawns. Merritt Boulevard, Fishkill-again overwhelmed with deer. They congregate at night by the dozens on this road-especially at the intersection of Rt. 52. Downstate, Matteawan, Stony Kill Farm, Castle Point-All breeding grounds for deer, where you can't hunt. There are certainly no shortage of deer in this area, and consistently get hit on Rt. 9D. Hyde Park, NY-virtually no hunting around here. Tons of deer out at night. Fallkill County Park, and the State property down the road, are loaded. City of Poughkeepsie (yes, city)-the park on Innis Avenue consistently has deer in it at night-especially bucks. In fact, many roads in that area have deer wandering at night. The point is, there are tons of deer, they're just NOT in the woods!
  9. I stand corrected. I should have said the 'burbs. Believe it or not, there are certainly people in Southern Dutchess paying the same amount. Then again, a new house in Southern Dutchess will run about $750,000.
  10. The "welfare" system was overhauled when Pataki was in office. The overwhelming majority of people who are getting help, are people who lost their jobs due to no fault of their own. I actually knew a guy who couldn't get help, because he lost his job due to his own actions. They wouldn't give him anything. This is a different system than what existed years ago, which was a disaster. It's kind of strange as to how many suits now go in and out of there. People who were well to do, and took it for granted. Things can change overnight in this economy.
  11. Got it. But I know there is certainly a significant difference in the cost of living overall between the Northern & Southern Tiers.
  12. Wow! That's all you pay? Down here, your average yearly tax base, on a house alone, is at least $4000. You're kidding, right?
  13. I have to agree. Certainly seems like a union deal to me, of which I am in NO WAY a fan of unions.
  14. Now, that's an interesting point. I agree 100%!
  15. When I was deployed to the WTC, while in the Army, I didn't ask questions, or worry about fees. I solely concentrated on helping other Americans. That was my job. Don't get me wrong on this issue. I don't believe in entitlements. What I don't understand, is how someone can just stand by, and let it happen. Sorry, that's just not me. On another note, I also disagree with these so-called "Occupiers", who I think are just asinine.
  16. Actually, we will probably never know who they pay taxes to. Irregardless, taxes are supposed to be paid for public services. If you're a block away, how do you know if anyone is in the house? It's not like they went in and checked. As for taxes, and New York City, when it comes to funding between the city, and upstate, there have been many battles over that, as upstate usually gets the short end of the stick when it comes to funding for education, etc. This is no big secret.
  17. Wow. What if someone couldn't afford to pay it? So much for your house! I'm sorry, but there's no question in my mind that these people are paying taxes on their property as it is. Why do the ones in the city get an exception to this? What's the next thing? "Oops-we can't send the police to your house, because you didn't pay your subscription fee."
  18. Yes. Mepps fishing lures actually uses the tails for their spinnerbaits. The Mepps Aglia Long is made with squirrel tail hair. I don't know what they pay for them, though.
  19. Actually, there are no shortage of deer in Dutchess County. The problem here, is out of control development. If there were anyone to fault for why hunting has been so altered here, it's developers, and "in the pocket" politicians. We have lost probably about 50-60% of the areas we used to hunt, due to development. The deer just lay behind these new houses, where the food source is prime in these types of areas. They have no reason at all to go in the woods. Try driving just about any road at night, and you'll see groups and groups of deer in these areas. You just can't get to them.
  20. Shot a deer with the Fusions last year, and there was literally no blood whatsoever. Thankfully, it dropped him pretty fast. The slugs I used to have excellent blood trails with, were the Brenneke KO's. They were just plain nasty.
  21. Well said. I agree 100%.
  22. I've actually noticed a few posts where people clearly took their deer after legal shooting hours. Terms like "it was just about dark" are definitely a dead giveaway, since there's still approximately a half hour of light after legal shooting hours.
  23. I have a Traditions Thunderbolt, and I love it. I use strictly 100 grains of White Hots pellets. Plenty for deer hunting. I use strictly 100 grains for a reason. I've read too many reports of 150 grain loads destroying barrels on muzzleloaders, apparently due to softer steel. 100 grains of Pyrodex, etc., is plenty.
