  1. Yes Yes lets make some great memories in the great outdoors.
  2. These are some cool stories I have seen alot other strange things too but couple takes the cake.I wanted so bad to applaude them when they got done but couldn't get up the nerve.
  3. Ok ready for this one this really happened to me. I was bow hunting around the early 90's i think 93 a warm oct afternoon. It was a trac of land between a corn field and a road with houses on it.A couple walked down from one of the house's to a area that was alittle thick and brushy they laid their blanket down and proceeded to have some fun. These were a grown couple probably looking to liven things up.At first I was gonna warn them butI got embarressed to say anything. Then this lasted about 30mins and I was gooing to clap but decided not to embarress them so they just finished and left. needless to say I saw no deer that day.I sware this is a true story and everytime I got back in that stand I thought of that day and what happened.
  4. Tomorrow starts ny southern zone rifle season. I wanna wish everyone good luck and above all be safe.I wish everyone a safe and successful hunt.
  5. Looking good I make sausages and brats too.I do have a customer base that loves sausages.Hey try making a beer and cheddar brats their good too.It does look good not to mention its cheaper to do it yourself.things around here have gotten really expensive I heard of a guy going to a place in lower orange county with 25 lbs of meat and spending over $275.00.PLUS your right its alot of fun.
  6. I would check the game laws not sure if a .22 is legal for coyotes.I really am not sure I thought it was center fire sotgun or bow.Might be wrong though.
  7. Ty guys we'll get'em I had an offer from a state forest ranger who heard about my story He said he'd hunt with me the first week as he has off He won't even shoot deer he wants to nail this guy.He said he'd hunt close to the property line in a climber so he wouldn't be seen until it was to late.
  8. I am in orange county I process deer I make sweet and hot Italian sausages Breakfast sausage and 6 flavors of jerky cheddar brats and corned venison I have a Facebook page H B venison processing.I custom cut starting at $70
  9. You will see an increase in deer activity yr after yr. I have several plots of a variety clovers, alfa rack plus, brassicas, chicory /clover mix and some no plow. Brassicas were hurt buy all the rains this fall but the deer are killing my clover plots.I have no problem every yr getting my deer.Next season I am planting new plots of whitetail institute double cross and power plant and some soybeans.
  10. I have my land posted The D.E.C. officers (2) have been on location. They took pics. They actually were really madder then I was.The plan is for me to call them when he's there and hopefully he'll shoot something on my land and be charged with many D.E.C. violations and misdeamenors. My biggest thoughts are the safety and protection of my son who just started hunting. It just wasn't fair that he had to start his hunting years worrying about crap like this. Its his first yr to hunt away from me but I told him today we'll have to sit together one more yr.Thats whys this situation is so upsetting he was looking forward to hunting in his own stand this season. Thanks everyone for your imput I hope this never happens to any of you.I will be careful. He thinks he scared me but I am irate and pissed off but doing the right things.Every law enforcement agency in the area D.E.C.and township know whats going on so do all the nieghboring landowners so if something happens he's busted.
  11. Your right I don't hate him but he's setting a real bad example for his son who is way to young to see that kinnda behavior. Its funny the D.E.C. officer said the same thing theres nothing worse then to hunting neighbors not getting along.I don't know what to say to him but I do know right from wrong and I will distill the same beliefs in my son.Ya theres nothing I can do about the stands but the only thing in front of him is my land so I know he's gonna shoot something on my side then he's trespassing.
  12. You did what you thought was right and the kids learned more then one lesson its seems on that day.I have Had deer shot fall in front of me and no one show up to claim it before. When I called the law enforcement local and D.E.C. they asked me what I wanted to do.So I just put my tag on it and took it as my own.Dave was right outcome might have been different if the officer had to got back there and drag it out herself.Honestly I think it was a judgement call by the officer and the other senerio was did she believe your story. Its just the way it works.I will ask my D.E.C.officer tomorrow about it though He always says got hunting question just call me.
  13. 3 yrs ago one parcel of land got sold. The guy seemed nice at first I let him and his son hunt with my son and I. After 2 yrs he tried bringing his 6 friends and family in, argued with hunters on adjacent lands.Called landowners and argued with them.At the end of last yr I cut my losses and told him its not working. He was threatening, abusive, and arogant. He called me at home left messages on my fiancee's cell phone etc.Now the other day I went in to hunt and what did I find huh.He had put a ladderstand 15 feet of the property line looking into mine, alawn chair about 100 ft away from that and mineral blocks around them.He actually did this after receiving several warnings to leave my property and I alone.the seat and stand are on an open end of his property looking into mine.So i ask wheres he hunting not to mention he's baitingI thought about it for a day and told myself. If he's that stupid lets see how the D.E.C. looks at it.Today they stopped by and looked around kinda joked abit about it and asked me to give them a call when they are in there. After I have to go right through the area to go to my stands.Theres alot more to this story but I would be here all night.I will add that this sept my sonwho is 17 had his stand tore down ladder bent in half and rachet straps cut(I wonder who did that its funny that thats the stand he used too).So lets take a vote idiot or not.I will remain nutural as it would be a conflict of interest. Thanks for all votes.
  14. The only way to truly age is with trail cams then you'll know really what age they are.I manage my property too but its not big enough that they will stay on our property even with the food plots and other things weve done deer especially bucks at certain times of the yr move on and off the property. My neighbors love putting thier stands just off the property lines.I know I have 2 3.5 yr old this yr and I think if he's still around 1 4.5. yr old.Good luck though its good to see poeple trying to improve the deer herd.
  15. Aging deer live is tough a buck developes his skeletal mass til around 5.5 yrs then starts to build his muscular side. The D.E.C. uses the teeth to age deer its close but not full proof.A deers diet also determines the wear on its teeth.Theres a couple links that help age a deer by body shape. As a buck gets older from fawn to say 5.5 yrs he builds his skeleton. Then he's considered in his prime. After that his snout shrinks, his belly sages, and his back bows in the middle. His body begins its decline racks shrink his digestive system doesn't break down those nutrients and minerials that once grew that great skeleton and antlers. One other important factor is he even doesn't seem to care as much about the rut survival instinct takes up much of his time.I believe the 2nd deer is 3.5 yrs the 3rd could even be a 4.5 yr old he's close to prime thick body. The 4th deer on the ground I thing( my opinion if he was live it would be a easier call) is atleast 4.5 yrs old.I also noticed the the top jaw set looks unevenly worn deer also will chew on one side more then the other and wear unevenly. I will see if I can find the link for aging deer on the hoof.It is hard I know but don't think your stupid the only real way is to get yr to yr trail cams of the bucks then you'll know.I once shot a buck in sullivan county back in the 80's that was so grey and had hardly any teeth had a weird 5 pt rack I could actually fold his hide on his back and belly. The D.E.C. biologist at the time aged him at 8.5 yrs old.I'll never forget He looked up at me and said man I would have loved to see him in his prime. So that I even thought at the time was a bad call I really thought he was older then that my brotherin laws dad told me he thought that was the old swamp buck he hunter for 7 yrs and never got to harvest his.I have to admit now that the deer really looked like hell I remember the butcheer telling me that the deer had all kinds of scars under his hide and that he had actually broke ribs at one time.My brotherinlaws father said that he saw him every yr breifly and at 6.5 he had a pic of him at night he was a 12 pt about 220 lbs when I shot him he weighted in the 170's.
  16. we actually have a buck around this yr looks like that in the walden area off rt 52 my sister took pics of him.
  17. Ok judging from what I have learned and read full moons mean the deer are more active at night.Which means plan more for mid day and late afternoon hunts.I had 12 to 15 deer come in this morning around 6 30 just to bed til 11 am.then they fed abit and bedded til 2 30 also the rut should be according to the moon faze be in full swing(doe's in estrus) peek around the 17th.I hope that sounds about right thats just my opinion based on what I have learned over the yrs. Also try hunting all day between bedding and food sources. You might catch a buck criusing around there.Ny hunter's right the girls gotta eat find them and the bucks will show up.
  18. Thanks I will check into it in my area.
  19. I don't know about Idea's but I took a freind hunting this bow that has cancer and other problems but his reaction when he got a deer was proceless to me.I am considering doing it with more people its a great thing to do.Its great that your taking the time to do it.I wonder if the state would be willing to set aside some land around the state if we could get enough hunter's to get involved and volunteer to help organize such a program.I know I could help set it up in my area of the state and there's lots of state land around 3m.
  20. Its a great feeling to see the land shape up and start producing nice bucks and heavier doe's isn't it.I actually will be purchasing an atv disc this spring also for smaller harder to reach sites.I have a small .50 acre plot I plant in the late summer with forage oats and brassica's its out of the way but it produce's a nice buck every late season or muzzleloader season.Yes I am starting this spring charging a labor and item fee.Depends on what the agreement holds.
  21. would you know the phone nuber for the orange county or ulster county area's
  22. Thanks guys I thought sharing this story would inspire some others.PLus its alittle different story then the norm on here. I thought about it all night I couldn't get the way he lived the moment out of my mind.So with all that said I may do this once or twice a yr for the less fortunate.Anyway thanks for all the replys and good luck and be safe.
  23. I met my friend 3 yrs ago through my sister at her BBQ.Anyway we talked got to know each other and became friends. After geeting to know my friend over 3 yrs I finally felt ok to invite him to bowhunt with me this yr.My friend wally is 61 and has prostate cancer. Also he has a back injury which left him with disabilities. He had a really closeup and personal encounter over this weekend with a nice 7 pt and he talked about it til today. He last hunted with another guy who got pissed cause he shot a deer off his property(so why invite him).Anyway between his disability and illness its really hard for him to get out. This afternoon I asked him to accompany me to hunt setting him up in a ladderstand on a ridge overlooking a swamp and bedding area.As I rejoined him this evening around 4:45 he was out of the stand and had his light on.As I approached Wally I asked if he got a deer.To my delight he said yes.I asked if it was down and what sex.He told me it was already gutted and a buck It made me fell so great to see the overwhelming joy and energetic behavior coming from him.I high 5'd him and he checked out his deer. Not a trophy by any means but just to see his joy and gratefulness bought tears to my eyes.I guess I forgot what its like to see someone who has so much wrong enjoy the moment or maybe not thinking about his problems if only for a moment. If anybody who reads this ever has a chance to help someone in this or other ways that has llife problems give it a shot the feeling it gives you will overwelm you.Its such a great experience that I had to share it with this forum.
  24. No I'm good I just wanted to see what it all entailed I know theres alot to it.I do enjoy it for myself I don't think I could do it for a living a few friends or maybe a here or there thing. I already process venison and work full time.I was more in wondering if anyone thought about doing it theirselves.
