I m not sure how it works I believe it would be up to the officer of any agency. My thoughts would be that if it was from a crop planted or natural such as apples falling off the tree when they are ripened or acorns its the same thing. My advice would be leave it on the stalk. But like I have been told in the past before it was illegal to feed deer if it was planted or standing its a legal food source.

Things have changed in the stewert hunting area you have to call ahead for a parking place.Theres less of a D.E.C. presence and there more lawlessness there I have had alot of people tell me some real horror stories the last 2 or 3 yrs about hunting there. But some still swear by the place I do know some really nice deer have come out of there over the yrs. Also I beleive theres state land by walker valley and texudo park.

I am from region 3 orange/ulster county lines. I have been hunting now for 32 yrs.I have an impressive collection of mounts on my walls. Although I have never hunted outside N.Y.S. I enjoy great success and have been lucky enough to be able to hunt the same 159 plus acres in ulster county my whole life.I have implemented my own Q.D.M. in this area.I have about 15% planted in foodplots using exclusively whitetail institues products and they work very well.I also keep up on current events and deseases and cycles such as the forages like oak and beech nut tree and their production cycles and the weathers effects on them.I also process deer for the last 27 yrs.MY facebook page( HB venison processing) is up and running. My specialties are sausages, jerkys, brats, and recently corned venison yes corned venison.I am looking forward to giving advice maybe processing some members deer or just interacting on this forum with my fellow hunters. I also wanna say good luck ladies and gents and remember its a privaledge to hunt in N.Y.S. so lets stay safe and lawful at all times.

I use golden estrus by hunter specialties it comes with a born on date.Or Matrix doe in heat.3 things to bear in mind when using these attractants. When, how, and how much affect your success if any.Using it very sparingly late in prerut on a drag within 100 yds of my stand works well, using it as a drag and hanging it within 30 yds during the same time works well for me.Also xbolt says in his response a mock scrap or 2 close to your stand works well.I have used these scents for along time and found that its not hit or miss but alot of how well you use you scents and when.chances are when the rut kicks in its only affective on bucks cruising once a big boys locked on a doe forget it.Thats why they call it lock down time he stays with her for 24 to 48 hrs.One other thing I took my biggest buck during post rut using a drag while still hunting during muzzleloader season the big 160 class walked right in behind me from a swamp as I stood to watch a creek bottom at 60 yds I only soaked the tips of the drag but the wind blowing into the swamp was enough to bring him out also watch your scent too.

The only advice I would give is try to sure up some land in adjacent regions. Some may offer a better chance of securing a permit. The only disadvantage is traveling.I know in 3m theres several state areas and the chances a way better.

This is how NY needs to handle poachers!
hb270deermanager replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in General Hunting
My view is follows its been the N.Y.S. Idea that fine and fine and fine and let them go.I know of a couple of fellows who have been caught more then once or twice received fines.Only to go right back a to the same locations to practice their law- lessness.I still have to chase them out of the area.Heres the laws response after they got caught well we catch um and fine um and the courts let them have there rights back.I feel that poaching is very wide spread.Tougher laws need to be in place.1st offense should be a miscdemeanor. 30 days and 1000. fine loss of any and all life time hunting rights, forfieture of everything used in the offense.2nd time should be a felony with 10,000 fine and 3 to 5.We have to be tougher on law breakers last yr alone on the friday be for rifle openned I listened to between 10 to 15 shots that evening they were hunting smallgame. -

I can pass along my experience here.I have been processing venison for over 25 yrs Making everything from ground, jerky, sausages, corned venison, etc.Got a question I might have an answer.Oh ya for the skeptic my corned venison is second to none.My jerky is top notch. All my sausages and brats are 100% natural. The best info I can pass to anyone is I do the best in the processing business.Heres how it goes 1 deer at a time no lots of 10 which is how all those big time butchers do it you'll never get your deer.Proper field dressing and cleaning of the deer is very crucial.I have a process for aging meat.Deboned, double wrapped, clean(not washed off) cant do that and freeze.Ground is mixed with pork trimmings not fat this is unhealth and causes breakdown and spoilage.I also mix with special orders for people who have health needs soy, veal, etc.I charge 70.00 oh ya the big guys lay claim but I have delivered for over 25 yrs I open a package season and straight to the pan or grill.I can tell you last yrs deer are still in the freezer and ready for consumption. I just had tri tip steaks and sirlion tips last night.I am working on a facebook page to help the guys who are out there making hunting happen.I am in the orange, ulster area for those who wanna know.As far as the big butchers and processors they got nothing on me.I do this cause i need to do the right thing.Guys are getting ripped off or just plain getting a lessor product cause most processors are in it for the money.I had a new client last yr tell me he payed 6.00 a pound for italian sausage and it was blan.I gave him a pak of my sausage from the previous yr yes the yr before and he was estatic. Hows that for endurance and yes it was as fresh as when I made it. -
I am writing in regard to the artical about deer populations in N.Y. We as deer managers must all do our part to help out our states deer herd. If anyone reads this artical please bear in mind that to many take it for granted that we just have to hunt them.I am a firm believer in Q.D.M.A.I have been practicing this for over 15 yrs now.Working food plots making better habitat and letting the younger deer (not just bucks) mature abit. Alot of hunters in my area are catching on to it. stopping Illegal taking of deer watching predator popul- ations and watching the deer for desease is im- portant.Theres still not enough people willing to commit to helping our deer herds.Ya we pay alot for our liciences but we can do more to srengthen our deer herds and help them.Deer are prone to cycles just like foods sources,Habitat, predators, etc.We could at any time start to see a down cycle in some parts its already happened. So instead of crying about the problems when they happen see what you can do to help the situation. If anything it will make you feel better about what your doin in oct, nov, and dec I know I do.Heres a casein piont in the town of clarkstown 100 deer were found dead the citys D.E.P. found that they had epizootic hemorrhagic desease.Predator populations rising is a big concern also.Heres a link www.ny.gov- /press/76929.html.will tell you more.

Theres really no one way to totally keep deer out once the plot starts to grow the young plants especially clovers, soybeans, brascias, etc.I have been planting plots for awhile now over 15 yrs.I have found that a combination of types of forages and several site locations helps. Also the deer population will determine if the site or sites get over grazed to early. I hunt a 155 acre area and plant about 11 or 12 acres but I plant 6 or 7 sites using diff- erant forages.I have found that dollar for dollar my whitetail institute plots with golden jump start and a really fast and high % of germination rate make my plots hard to over graze. But a small plot of the size mentioned and being the only one in the area almost doesn't stand a chance.
