Season for the DMFA starts middle of Jan
-
Looking for land around the Ithaca area to hunt during the middle of January. I have filled out all the permits and have applied through Cornell so I have some options, the only problem is you have to reserve areas am and pm. I would like to find an area and learn a property and maybe have a property to hunt in the future. Would be willing to help out in any way I could in hopes of gaining permission. Thanks.

Call Summit mine did the same thing and they sent me a replacement for free

DMFA Tags Tompkins Deer Management Focus Area
shantysitter replied to Meat Manager's topic in Deer Hunting
Muzzy, is this all of Tomkins or just certain areas? -
Sits in trees. You have some major issues, in 2 of the posts you made on this topic you made racial comments towards Asians as "chincks" looking like martians then Mexicans as "wetbacks". In your avatar picture is a Catholic Cardinal. Do you realize how f-d up the whole catholic religion is? Wake up you RACIST , this country would be better off with less people like U in it

Muzzy, don't think so at first I thought a flock of turkeys, big area , couldn't make out any hoof prints, to dry looked for droppings didn't see any. Some of the area was dug 4-6 inches deep. Gonna call the ranger tomorrow

While out scouting on a WMU this weekend I came across an area that was ripped up and the only thing I think it could be was from hogs. This was in Schuyler County, was wondering if anyone has heard of populations of them up there?

So are you in favor of crossbows? Don't know what your issue is, I asked legitamate questions and this is your response.Don't know, maybe time to change the depends
-
February 13, you said " you do not support crossbows" Then I bring up what would you do if you couldn't draw back a compound, now you do NOTcare about crossbows in archery. Well what is it? Still waiting for what your view was when Ny switched from traditional to compounds? I "READ YOUR PRINT" and didn't see a response.

Bringing women and youngsters into hunting is a bad thing? How many people go out in the woods with there ccompound and don't practice?
-
Fasteddie, interesting post especially when I view your profile, you use a Parker and Pearson compound bows. Being 70 years old what were your views when NY first switched from traditional, longbows , to compounds? What would your views be if you couldn't draw back your compound?Would you give up hunting or would you get an Xbow if it became legal for archery? If you love hunting like I assume you do, would you forfeit nearly 2 months of hunting or would you own one?
-
Thank you for the answer. I love going to Ny to hunt, just wish they pass xbows for archery so my friend would come up to camp again.Hopefully soon

Being from Pa, I was wondering if the topic of legalizing xbows is coming up for a vote for the upcoming archery season? A good friend of mine can't hunt (physically) with a compound but would love to get out there with a xbow. He doesn't even go to camp during archery season because he gets so bummed out. Should xbows be legal for archery, don't know. Should xbows be legal for people who are physically unable to use a compound during archery, absolutely. Most people who are physically limited are senior citizens, I know that my friend can't sit more than a few hours during gun season because of the cold, at least during archery he could enjoy it more and might get to get out there a few more times. It's pretty sad that people are forced out of the sport they love when their is an easy solution.

I never carry a gun when hiking, lots of bears and coyotes in my area. My biggest concern are peoples dogs. I had 2 Rottweiller mix looking dogs one day come at me, by the time I figured I should climb a tree they were on me. Thank god they were both friendly and only wanted to be petted. If I had a gun with me I definately would of probably shot.

Was wondering if anyone has hunted there and what your overall opinions on it were. Not looking for deer numbers just was looking into what your overall experience was.
-
I would go a different avenue. Have you thought about in in line. I have a 50 cal omega, shoots great out to 100 yds, great knock down power, and gives you another season to hunt.

Not just a great place to hunt but the fishing opportunities are incredible.I love NY

Just a short post to tell a bout our hunting season. 4 of my buddies and I have been hunting for 15 years together, we used to lease land, but it just got to expensive. This year we decided to hunt a WMA. We ended up getting a permit from the state and set up a tent.We spent 10 days and had a great time. We all saw deer and even harvested a few. This being our first year we were more than happy. We met some real nice people, park ranger included and everyone was great. We have an older friend who couldn't walk to far from the tent and everybody we talked to about where he was hunting was gracious enough to give him plenty of room.Once again thank you NY

Leave earlier Saturday morning and hunt longer; last weekend to deer hunt til next year.Make it a full weekendof hunting not just a few hrs.

Jennifer Thank you for an answer to my question

Great pics, had the same thing happen at one of our ladder stands, the grouse was there for about a week straight. Every time someone would sit there it would come around, sit on the stemps or just hang out by the stand. It was crazy, the only thing we could figure was that there were alot of wild grapes and maybe they had fermented and the grouse was a little bit drunk. Never shot a deer out of the stand but it was probably one of my favorite times on stand.Does anyone have an explanation as to why this would of happened?

To many deer is better than to few.Drive Pa roads , most of the deer you see dead along the road are bucks, How many miles did that buck run lookingfor a doe before it met it's demize by an 18 wheeler. You will always have areas where there is going to heavier doe populations thanks to the inventions of "Posted Signs"..Wmu are to large to properly manage a herd.
-
Having to many deer in a area is a good thing, Pa used to have that "problem" then they gave out way to many doe tags. It isn't to much fun going in the woods and not seeing anything. At least you can see some deer then can shoot a doe if you want with a muzzleloader or bow. In Pa you can"t shoot what's not there. Can't wait for Southern Tier 8 days

Leverage Speed Ladder treestand
shantysitter replied to Deerthug's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Summit stands are very safe, easy to use and comfortable. Get one and try it once and you don't have to worry about practicing with it. The most important thing is to get the right angle of the standing platform. Taking into account that the tree gets narrower the higher you get. I like the Summits better than the API Stands because you don't have to worry about dropping pins when setting them up. Both however are very stable and easy to use.
